Hello
has anyone bought and fitted these bonnet struts? are they any good and worth the pretty reasonable money?
cheers

I bought the IL Motorsports kit a couple of years ago, but the struts were too stiff (~300 Newton) and flexed the bonnet too much, so I replaced them with a more appropriate strength pair (100 Newton) from SGS Engineering. See more detail in my posts about it below - with pretty pics.

thanks for this. i see you had the chrome ones. it was the black set on MX5 parts i was looking at. They may be different as i see the star rating on the chrome ones are less than the black ones. unless they are the same but different colours
The gas struts are generic, and the outer shells can be different colours or shiny depending on who makes them and what is their standard stock. But some firms will paint them any colour you like (for a little bit extra). I chose SGS because they make exactly what I wanted, offered quick service and good guarantee.
I’ve since replaced all the sagging struts on my kitchen cupboard lift-doors (not a practical idea but looks good) with new ones from SGS, much better.
IL Motorsport struts, now on second NC after re-spraying the brackets; still going strong…
I have the chrome IL struts. Really good not having to struggle with the bonnet stay in one hand and the bonnet in the other. No complaints once fitted, a bit of a fiddle fitting but not insurmountable.
I have the IL motorsports ones too. I’ve even made a short video of how they work.
No sound but who needs to hear my bonnet squeak anyway
Excellent thanks for the video. I think for 60 quid they are worth it, better fetch my bank card!
