MX-5 NC3 Replacing gear lever cover - missing top ring

  1. My model of MX-5 is: MX-5 NC 2013 PRHT 6MT
  2. I’m looking for technical help or recommendations on: My original gear lever leather cover got worn down, so I wanted to replace it. Ordered a “Jass Performance Gear Lever Gaiter”, but when I wanted to install it I noticed that the original leather cover has some plastic or metal ring on top that holds leather in shape. Jass Performance cover does not have it, so what’s the proper way to install it?
Please ELI5, don’t have a lot of experience with DIY repair

Aftermarket gaitors hardly have anything at the top like the originals. You just wack your gaitor on and screw the knob back on.
I suppose if you are handy with a knife and glue you could cut the ring off and glue it under the other gaitor for a better finish, your choice, it may look better.

It’s not mandatory or anything then? Nice, thank you!

I will probably try to glue top part into a ring and put it on, seen someone doing it on YouTube

Get 2/3 plastic 1/2 penny washers superglue them together then superglue them into place on the new one or just revamp the old one ……
