Perhaps , but usually racing other MX-5s . But I’d nominate the Porsche 911 as the sports car with the longest, best and most diverse competition history. Like the MX-5 it’s gone through many identity changes since its debut in 1964 . The Neunelf , and derivations has won the Monte Carlo Rally, Le Mans, Paris Dakar , Targa Florio, Sebring and Daytona .

My first thought was the Mini.

Depends how the question is asked. Grok etc are biased because all Spec Miata results are on the internet, but 40 years of Mini racing is pre-internet. By my estimates, about 10,000 NA MX5s have ended up in racing, out of half a million. But if I look at Lotus, Caterham Sevens, maybe 10,000 Lotuses, 20,000 Caterhams, I’d hazard that nearly all of them have been at least been hillclimbed or in a sprint.

Does the traffic light grand prix count?

To be fair I rasied it due to the Internet, It just popped up at the top of the page we could like you say, try and ask the question differently, it may give different results, as your pointing out, its a fair comment more research required before we all jump around and believe the first search results :+1:

100 :100: yes haha :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:

I’d say most Lotus Sevens did compete. But as a longstanding member and once a dirctor of the Caterham and Lotus Seven club , based on that experience I’d say I doubt if even 5% of Sevens are used in competition. A surprisinginly high number of owners of a car designed as a racing car have no interest in motorsport , and if cars are taken on track it’s mainly track day stuff . Many do compete in the Graduate series, and a fair few in speed events but on overall numbers it’s small .
