MX5 1.8VT 2000 Engine Light On After Re Fuel

Hi

New to the forum and MX5s

Have just purchased car, drove fine on the way back, about 50 miles. Next day changed oil and filters and a wurth injection cleaner.Decided to enjoy the test drive so after about 20 miles I refuelled with normall fuel. After about 2 miles the engine light came on and is still on. Any thoughts?

The only other thing I noticed was the tickover was and still is about 900 rpm

Thank you chaps

The most common cause of a MIL illumination on the NB F/L is code P0011 a sticking oil control valve for the VVT. It may clear itself after 5 drive cycles. If not you’ll need to get it cleared using a code reader. If it is that code I wouldn’t spend any money checking it out straight away, drive it for a bit longer and see if it returns.

What do you mean by 5 drive cycles? Up through the rev range or 5 drives with engine on and off? Not on my car but check someones last night, its booked in for an oil change that may help it.

Am I going nuts!!! The first post and 2nd say they were 8 yrs ago and the 3rd just 2hrs ago!!!

Is this a blip or have you really just answered 8 yrs later??

Ian  has obviously done a search for an answer to a problem he is aware of on someone else’s car, and was asking what is meant by a drive cycle, seems fair enough to me. A drive cycle = ignition on/start engine - drive - stop/ignition off = i drive cycle.

What seems to have been missed is the term 1.8 SVT (VVT) on a 2000 car, as 1.8 VVT’s were not produced and on the market, here till around August 2001 or later. After 8 years - who cares, really?

Exactly right, rather than starting another new post on the same subject, I searched one and found an answer to my question, but that then gave me a new questions. I assumed it was A drive cycle = ignition on/start engine - drive - stop/ignition off, but wanted to check.

Now if anyone else searched for an answer to the same problem, all the information is in one topic and easy for them to find out the solution.

I did not answer anything, I asked a question based on the topic of the post.
