MX5 2010 washer nozzle removal

Dear all,

I am only getting water out of the driver windscreen washer nozzle on my 2010 MX5,  it only just trickles from the passenger nozzle.

These nozzles are not fitted to the bonet but the plastic mouding between the bonnet and windscreen.

I would appreciate hints and tips on how to remove the nozzle and or the plastic moulding.

I have tried a pin to try and dislodge any gunk but this has done nothing.

Cheers

It’s easy enough job. Remove the windscreen wiper arms, one nut for each. Remove the two oval caps covering the screws that hold the plastic scuttle in place and then remove these two screws. You now need to release the plastic pins that hold the rubber seal at the front of the scuttle, a pair of needle pliers make this easy. Once all the pins are out jiggle the scuttles and they will come away giving access to the jets. Give them a clean and a blow through and all should be well. There is a ball bearing and Spring valve that sticks. This sounds much worse than it is,
Two things to note. You will almost certainly snap the little clips off the oval covers for the screws so unless you are rearly lucky these will need replacing ( I just taped mine in place with black electrical tape until I put an order in for other stuff from mx5 parts ) and while the scuttle is off seal the grommets that the screws go into. They are know to leak and cause problems.
Good luck.

this is exactly the level of information I need. I am very grateful for this combe, very greatly appreciated indeed.

My passenger side one was lazy, despite blasting all the pipework with the bath tap ( and lots of crud came out)

In the end, I sucked on the jet (in reverse) and ended up with something nasty in my mouth, but it fixed the issue.

Maybe a syringe filled with water might be a better idea.

As regards the rubber seal along the front of the scuttle.

You can get away with removing the seal from the clips and leave the clips in situ.

The clips are T shaped, if you stretch the rubber slightly, you can slip it off the clips.

As CombeMartian suggests, it would be worth sealing the screw mounts while you have the scuttle off.

cheers gents,  I am going to attempt this at the weekend.  Im sure it’ll go wrong, these things usually do

When refitting the scuttle, watch out for the hooks which hook under the front edge of the windscreen.

They are not particularly troublesome, and dont have to clip on to anything, but it’s easy to fit them sitting on top of the glass instead of underneath it.

thanks people, im going to try this on saturday
