I have a 25th Anniversary and trying to order some spray paint for a small touch up.
The dealer says the colour code is 44v but Mazda does not sell a spray can.
I have hunted around a think 44v refers to a 2 tone paint combination black roof and red body. It looks like the colour is Soul red 41v. I’ve had some made up at a local motor shop but its just not a match. Any ideas? Is there another Soul red code? Any help please.
The Soul Red is a b@stard colour to match and is a four stage paint. I doubt anyone will be able to fill a rattle can or touch up pencil that can come close to matching the colour. Heck, I know some reasonable body shops that can’t do a good job and one very good one that can with some patience.
The problem is that Soul Red has a base-coat in the red, and then the lacquer coat is also tinted, so depth of lacquer has an effect on the final finish! Heaven help anyone who polishes too deep.
The MX5 parts touch up kit I bought for my Mazda3 has both base-coat and lacquer pens, and I’ve found that touching up stone chips is tricky, but at least it looks better than the WHITE primer.
And then there is the new improved Soul Red on the latest cars…
I have Soul Red on my 2016 ND and have used the Mazda 41V two-pack touch up set. The base coat looks completely wrong initially but it comes right when the tinted clear coat is applied. I accept that my car is a couple of years newer so could have a variation of the same colour, but surely it’s got to be worth spending a tenner on Ebay to buy a 41V touch up kit to find out.
Thank you all for your help. Following your advice I continued spraying the front towing eye cover with 4 counts of the paint mixed by my local dealer. Followed by 2 generous clear lacquer coats. To my surprise it’s not bad at all. I wouldn’t attempt a body repair but as a separate small area it wouldn’t notice unless you were looking. Thanks again for your suggestions.
