MX5 car insurance up for renewal - what's your annual cost and who with?

I have just been quoted £145.00 by MoreThan, fully comp, 71 year old + wife living in Somerset, £500 excess, 3000 miles a year. That seems very reasonable, but I’ll see what my renewal from SAGA comes out at.

My policy is for 1992  Mk1 1.6. Agreed value £4000.  I am the insured with my wife as a named driver. I am limited to 3000 miles per year. Standard excess is £50  I bought this insurance thro’ Heritage Insurance and the policy provider is Optima classic Car.

I am 83 and my  wife is 78  and we  both have the 9 year no claim bonus. Cost £139.60 Inc IPT at 12%

As I am well retired I only use my car on Sunny days only.

I must tell you this tho’.  When I asked them about insurance they came at me with a price of £200 plus. and my retort was “forget it i can get it for less than that on the internet”  “Give me ten minutes Sir and I will get back to you, he says.  True enough he got back to me with £139.60 price. He said he had looked at another company who could do it for this price. Those few words " forget it I can it for less than that on the internet” saved me about £80.

£131 for me and the wife. 5000 miles per year limit. Including European breakdown cover. Bargain!

I paid £145 with Saga for my ND Arctic with 9 years NCD protected and 6000 miles limit. However, they first quoted a renewal price of £244 which was a hundred pounds increase on last year. After checking on Go Compare the cheapest quote came out as (you guessed it) Saga so I re-insured with them. It always pays to check!

From personal experience, having had insurance companies attempt to “pull the wool” by bumping up renewals well beyond what is reasonable, these days I never accept a renewal without comparing quotes with other companies.

I’ve got both of our cars with Quote Me Happy. Sounds like a cheap and nasty company but it’s actually Aviva. Get a slight discount for having two cars insured with them.

Wife’s Nissan Juke came up for renewal a month or so ago and the renewal quote was cheaper than on a comparison site.

Just swapped my 11 year old NC 2.0 Sport for a 2.5 year old ND 2.0 Sport Nav and price has remained the same.

9 years + no claims with no claims protected. £80 compulsory excess, no voluntary excess. Parked on drive overnight in rural Lincolnshire. 6k miles per year. Legal cover. I’m 60, wife is a bit younger (not allowed to divulge a lady’s age!).

£160.91

Wow!  That is a bargain!

Yes, I was rather pleased.

Quote me happy is all online. Change of registration, change of car, any other changes, you do them yourself online. Very simple and intuitive website to use too. Because you do any changes yourself there is no silly press one for this call centre system and no atrocious music on hold. Yes I’m grumpy, standard COG group member. Best of all, no admin fees for changes.

The only time the call centre comes into play is if you have a claim.

^^^ I’ll have to check them out, my Mk3 is modified which sometimes presents problems for some (higher prices) anyway will remember come renewal in Nov.

I’m paying about £185 for my NC. Same for a new 6 Sport Nav. I’m 49 but do a lowish mileage.

I thought the same / had similar experience about modifications, but one of my fellow local members said that the comparison sites had improved in terms of accounting for modifications, so I gave it a go. Used Confused.com and you can provide quite detailed information around any modifications and then let it whir away finding you some quotes (with luck!).

Most were close to or more than my renewal quote with esure (around £400-500 mark), but a few, including Admiral were around the £260 mark. Admittedly, the compulsory excess is £250 rather than £50, plus I have a £100 voluntary excess, but I’d rather save the £200 now, and hope to add to my 20+ years of NCD.

And if you think that still looks expensive, just think yourself lucky you don’t live in London and park on street!

Just got a quote from them too, no claims with modified Civic diesel so with no no claims £190 for 57 2.0 Sport.]

Good prices

Just renewed my ND Sport Recaro with QMH for £215, 8k miles, myself and wife to drive, business use for both, garaged and a Bxx postcode.

Also renewed my wife’s NC Venture Edition with QMH for £205, 6k miles, myself and wife to drive, business use for both, parked on drive and a Bxx postcode.

Both of us are still on the “good” side of 50 and with clean licences.

Ironically I still paid less to insure a V8 Vantage Aston on similar terms…
