My mx5 insurance is up for renewal in a few weeks. I was just wondering who is a good company to go with. I’m with e-sure at the moment but i think i can get a better deal with someone else. I took e-sure on last year at short notice.
So, i will start this off - i’m 65, i’m with e-sure, full NCD, i pay £300 with £100 voluntary excess.
I got my Mk3 Sport insured for less than £200, infact both cars (daily driver) for around £387.
I’m coming up for 64 yrs old this year loads of NCB and both cars (multi car policy) have protected NCB and £250 voluntary excess.
I got the quotes from comparison sites, infact I did the lot and got a decentish price then rang the comapny direct (Admiral) who came up with an even better price than the comparison site.
So my advice is, comparison sites, pick one (best price) and then ring and be cheeky and ask for a better price, if like Admiral they don’t want you to put the phone down without getting your business, try them out.
I’m 53 & am lucky to have 33 claim free & conviction free years. Occupation - Local Govt Officer.
My MX-5’s a 2012 2.0 Litre Sport Roadster Coupe, kept at night in a locked garage at my home address (Sheffield 12).
£276 with Saga, £550 excess - Social, Domestic & Pleasure use only - with an annual mileage of up to 8,000. I always shop round & this was the best price I could get…
My insurance comes up for renewal soon, and I have just had a quote from MoreThan for £145, fully comprehensive, £500 excess, self and wife to drive 3000 miles a year limit. (2005 Mk 2.5 1600). This seems incredibly cheap, and I wonder whether anyone here has experience of this company. In my experience, if something seems to be too good to be true, there is a snag.
TBH, I would just go with it? Insurance is so complex in terms of you, the car, postcode, NCB, convictions, speeding fines, where the car is kept, modifications, 2nd car or main one, protected NCB, etc. Need I go on? Less than three pounds a week, I presume that’s cheaper than your VED? We’re all getting ripped off and personally, I don’t want to claim anyway if I can avoid it so service levels to me, are an irrelevance? For example, my 2007 1.8 NC has cost me £70 more than you but twice the milage allowance, half the excess (compulsory and voluntary) fully comp, both myself and wife to drive? It’s not a lot to pay to make you legal for the road? My wife has been insured with More than in the past? Can’t comment as just paid the premium, got a certificate and never communicated with them again? Until renewal that is, when she went elsewhere because they hiked the premium
Just renewed one of mine. 1990 1.6 Eunos with declared mods. Lowered, wheels, exhaust etc. agreed value, 6000 miles per year. £135 fully comp. I,m 58, with all my no claims on another car with another company. This is with Lancaster. It’s just a shame that the car costs twice this sum to tax!
Hi we have both cars with Churchill , ooh yes ! Lol I am thinking when renewal is due to shop around when I bought my mk3 from garage it was quicker just to add 2nd car with them as already had insurance with them , anyway we pay £225 fully comp with my wife Valerie as second driver our 5 garaged mileage PA is 8000 we both have ncb I drive company cars 7 days a week not sure if that makes any difference , don’t think so we both have no points in early 50,s , as I said when renewal due going to possibly ring Lancaster and few others cannot hurt .
54yr old , fully comp , no excess , 1.6 Eunos 1990, including European Breakdown Cover with Aviva £280. Don’t know if being a driving instructor helps but shopped around as it’s a second car .
Time and time again I’ve rankled at the NCD allowance. I’ve had 30 years free of claims or accidents and the most I’ve been credited with at renewal is 9 years.
On buying my MX5 late last year I called Admiral to ask about a multi-car deal and include it on my daily drive cover. When I laughed at the premium, politely of course, and mentioned the tale that I was the only driver and could only drive one at a time, I was offered a deal with 15 years NCD on both cars (documented) to do it there and then! Moral: study the comparison sites but always phone the company and haggle. Good luck!
Last June MiXi was a new policy so no NCD. An '03 1.8 S-VT Sport 146 brake. Age 62, CO10 area, parked on the drive.
My old Merc Estate works car (before you go oooooooo its worth about £1500) is insured with Esure and has the full 9 years so for curiosity I gave them a call.
They took the NCD into consideration and I payed £186.48
useful info mine is also due for renewal over the next few weeks …
I certainly won’t be renewing with Adrian Flux again, 2 months after an incident and still no where near a resolution … my advice is to avoid them for sure ??
