Mx5 City Conisbrough

Anyone had any body work/paint done at MX5 City? Would you recommend them? I’ve had my roof repaired there and they did a good job and I talked to them about body work etc. but wonder if they are any better than taking the car to a non specialist mx5 place?

Thanks rob

Your location would help, and if willing to travel to the best, or recommended repairers.

I’m located south of sheffield so not far for mx5 city. I am willing to travel within reason though

Deepcar autobodies are in Sheffield, he has a good reputation on the various mx 5 forums. I don’t have experience of any work done by either of the mentioned companies but would take mine to the one in Sheffield if pushed, and close enough for you to actually go take a look see.

Hi. We have had our sill on one side and wheel arch and sill repaired on the other at MX5 City. Called in for a chat and quote just as another customers car came out of the body shop. We were impressed with the standard of workmanship so booked ours in. They did a great job and are very happy with the results. They are not the cheapest by a long way, you will have to decide for yourself if you are happy with the price. I wanted the job done right, not just a patch up job that needs doing again in a few years. Hope you find this helpful and good luck with the repair. Mike.

Hi Mike, thanks for your report on the work you had done by MX5 City. Glad you were pleased with the work done. We went across to see them today and met Martin who took us around the workshops where we saw several MX5’s in various stages of repair and restoration. They certainly seem to know their stuff, even if it is a bit pricey. I’m hoping to have, more or less, the same work done to our 2000 Icon, but as they are snowed under until December at least, I think we’ll wait until early next year when it comes out its winter hibernation (SORN).

Cheers,
Trev.

Hello, you need to look at some other comments put on here and other places re this firm, they have a reputation of being expensive which I can confirm having called in with my 5 to get a quote for rear sills, they were way more expensive than MX 5 Motors. Steve at this place is a great guy, mx5 mad and RX7 / 8 's. He has done quite a lot of work on my last 3 mx 5’s. He is not expensive and his work is first class ring him or go see him its worth the trip beleive me. I have had a service, water pump, battery, underseal and a new battery on my current car I wouldn’t take it anywhere else, certainly not to MX 5 City. I would think Steve ( he was the manager at city but left cos didn’t like the way they work )  would fit you in over the next couple of weeks ring him 01302 726763.

I left my 1997 Mk1 at MX5 city for some fairly serious repair work to both rear sills and arches as well as a few other bits and pieces - as usual the rot under the sills was much worse than was evident externally and there was a fair bit of rebuild work done on the internal parts of both sills along with the fitting of two rear sill / arch repair panels. I went for MX5city because it fitted well with my travel plans and attending a couple of courses in England.  Like other posters have mentioned, I went there because I wanted a “fix it once and fix it right” approach whereas other local shops over here in Northern Ireland had been keen to suggest more of a “paint over the cracks” approach.

Three weeks later the result is a good as new look, with Martin sending me occasional photos to show how the work was progressing, and while it was reasonably expensive, I don’t think it was excessive given the considerable labour involved in the rebuilding in particular, and it was no more than I had been quoted - I had also had some early rust taken out the front tip of the front wing, and both electric mirrors properly sprayed as they were slightly faded ebay bargins. The only glitch is I have spotted a bit of accidental misty overspray of the black lower edge strip over the body colour of red where it looks like some of the masking must have come loose, but I reckon this will come off easily enough.

Seconded for MX5 Motors, i always use them.

Do MX5 motors do body work?  Looking at their website they only advertise servicing and repair jobs.  Thanks for the advice about MX5 city prices.
