MX5 Disaster! Update

In July of this year I posted about the tragic demise of my much loved MX5 2.5 Sport (2005). She was written off after my neighbour crashed through my double garage doors and forced her through the garage wall (along with my equally loved Suzuki Bandit motorcycle. Now over six months later I have, finally, found a replacement for ‘Ruby’ - she is an NB 2005 launch edition (number 0886). As there were meant to be only 300 launch editions allocated to the UK I have to assume that, at some point, this car must have been imported from Japan?
Good news on ‘Ruby’ - it would appear that someone has bought her via a salvage auction and she is now back on the road again - well done to whoever did that. I did think about retaining her but to bring her back to her former glory would have been beyond my skills.

Did you mean this one below, an NC?

Well done in finding a replacement, hope the garage/building is now fixed and back as it should be.:+1:

Pretty important to determine if it is an import (easy from the VIN). You have to declare that fact to insurers and it affects the RFL rate.

Don’t assume its an import from the limited edition number 0886, don’t think they really allocated a specific 300 to the UK. There was one up for sale in the UK with a higher number than 0886, a model for the UK market.

0886 will be the World Number. Not all original owners of the Launch Edition fitted the Mazda U.K. supplied plate to their cars, so I don’t think you need worry about it being a import vehicle.

Hi.
If you have any problems insuring a Japanese imported vehicle then please feel free to drop me a line.

Dan.

When we mention an “imported” Eunos/Roadster/car we refer it it being a model made for and sold in Japan in this case new only, for their market not ours,JDM spec = Japanese Domestic Market Spec.which is imported by an importer to here used/S/hand, there is a bit more to it ,but thats the basics…
When we refer to a UK mx5 spec , it is a United Kingdom Spec mx5/car for these shores, imported by Mazda/dealerships to be sold here new to our specs and regs for our market.
They are all made in Japan and imported regardless to our shores to be used.

Yep - it is just like that. Going through all of the service etc. history that came with the car I have found out that the car is a UK supplied vehicle. Like someone else has mentioned - although there were 300 launch cars allocated to the UK the numbering is just part of the 3500 supplied worldwide.
Ps - garage is still as it was!!! The reconstituted Cotswold stone bricks are no longer available and the, hopeless, builders appointed by the insurers struggled to find anything like a match. I sent them details of a supplier recommended to me by a local contractor but they have yet to get underway - 5 months and still waiting!!!
