MX5 Eunos

Surely you are only talking about a free rotating pulley here. The ecu disconnects the AC at WOT. The ps is, on the other hand, always connected.

I’m with Geoff on this one. As I understand things, when you switch on the AirCon a small clutch engages the pump to the otherwise freewheeling pulley. So when the Air’ is off there is no overhead on the power output.

Agreed… I have it on my Mk1 and must say I have never used it… Never really got the point of it in a 2 seater convertable.

If the rain aint on… the hood aint up and there is no better air con that that [:D]

I use mine all the time, great for demisting. Once the windows are clear turn it off again.

I notice with my Mark 1 When your driving and you put the air con on you can
feel the power drain to a certain degree. In regards using it Ive been told its worth switching on just to keep it working OK

Thanks for the tip about HTML - I shall give it a go now. Sorry if it pastes with all the HTML -IM on a learning curve with this forum

I remember sitting in fierce sunshine one summer stuck on the motorway for over 4 hours not moving when I was meant to be on my way to donnington.

I was literally frying in my seat. Popped the hood up and aircon on - it does have its uses

Yep, I’m sure the AC does drain power under normal driving, it’s only when you floor the throttle that the AC disengages

I’ll have to see if I can grab a copy of that and have a look.

I had mine rolling road’d a while back and was very happy with the result.
It supposidly came out of the factory with 115bhp, and after 17years of driving and approx
100k on the clock the BHP was 115bhp !! [:D]

They are indeed amazing little cars !!

when the windows are steamed up.

when it’s so damned hot even when the roof is down we like the aircon in the face (yeah, i know thats not often but it does happen)

For some 90bhp is enough in a car like this. I like more power but that is just me. I seriously doubt that the 5 would have been dyno’d with the ac on anyway. The Eunos was always the one to have over the MX5 for the extra power. Some just don’t want to drive an import though. Each to their own. My stock engine at 100K miles seems bombproof and runs incredibly well for a 16 year-old car. Mazda engineers really got it right with this one!!

Yeah. Summer traffic jams . Hood up -aircon on.

Summer. What’s that then?Big Smile

Cheers

Oh you know. It’s that week we have sometime between May and September when it’s quite warm (ish).

Some  years ago, I was competing in the Croft Hillclimb in Northern Ireland. On my first run, I left the aircon on (mistake). My second run, without aircon on, was 5/100th sec quicker… I guess it is true; at WOT, the aircon clutch disengages.

I have never noticed significant impacts on power with the Roadster, air on or not. But I did on a 1992 CRX HF. After 140k miles, that 1991 Roadster made on the rolling road, 124hp at the fly wheel.
