HELLO IVE A MX5 ICON 2000. WITH LIGHT (TAN) COLOUR LEATHER SEATS AND LOWER DASH AND DOOR PANELS. IM WANTING TO COLOUR MATCH THE GEAR STICK GATOR. MINE IS WORN AND DAMAGED. ANY INFO PLEASE OF WHO MAKES AND SELLS THEM PLEASE. MY INTERNET SEARCHES BRING UP PLENTY BUT (NOT) MY LIGHT TAN COLOR. THANK YOU.
Loads of companies, such as MX5parts, sell tan shift boots. If you want it colour matched, buy a cheap set of tan leather boots, from under the seat, take a very small swatch of leather, and send it to Furniture Clinic, and they will make up a bottle of leather dye exactly to that colour. For £20 then (or so), you’ll have plent of dye to do a shift boot, handbrake cover, and repair any wear on the seats. Very easy to use:
1. Clean the leather with thinners.
2. Rough up the surface with 800 grit Wet n Dry
3. Sponge on the dye, bulding up layers.
4. Seal with supplied gloss sealant, tone down with a satin coat.
I used a sponge technique (no need for an airbrush) to recolour red seats black.
In another project, I took a cheap MX5parts boot, which was supposed to be red, but was more like orange, and recoloured it with colour matched dye.
