MX5 Insurance from Mazda?

Hi! I’m new to owning an MX5 and have just been sorting out my insurance and wondered if I have missed something with the Mazda insurance offering. Most of my normal quotes came in the £200 to £250 price range but I thought I would try Mazda as they did the 7 days after purchase deal. Their quote was £700!!! I appreciate their dedication to using Mazda parts and their 5 year guarantee but I couldn’t really see how their price could be 3 times as expensive.

Have I missed something which I might live to regret?

No, it’s similar to a “Con”.  Like you I tried them and like you I got a stupid quote.  The firm behind the deal (Zurich?) is just using this “deal” to “cherry-pick” from the applicants, to the rest it gives a ridiculous quote to price itself out of the market, and if anyone goes for it they must have more money than sense.  Just to say, it’s not just Mazda, other manufacturers do the same.  I had the same experience with “Honda” insurance a few years ago. Also, be careful, in trying to negotiate with “Honda” insurance, who were Zurich, I almost got myself into a situation where they would “Refuse” me, and that would have been problematic later as all insurers always ask “have you ever been REFUSED insurance?”.  In short, go for the best cover for the money!

Hi,

Please feel free to give us a try for insurance if you like. If you wanted to PM me some contact details I’d be happy to arrange for one of my quotes team to give you a call back.

Regards,

Dan.

I had the same experience with Mazda Insurance… £750 where most online and my current provider were under £300. Mazda made a big thing about genuine parts, replacement vehicle, etc. but it was way too much. Bought the car a month back and had emails and leaflets advising me to call Mazda first if I have an accident irrespective of who I was insured with. Unfortunately I woke up to a vandalised soft top on my month old car so phoned Mazda first. They immediately took details of my insurer and said they would handle the claim, they would provide a free car and they would pay up to £250 of any excess on my policy. They called later to confirm my local Mazda repairers contact details.

My insurer is Esure and I have a £300 excess which goes up to £500 if I do not go with their official repairer. Without Mazda first the repair would cost me £300 excess and no replacement car. Calling Mazda means I have to pay £500 but Mazda will cover £250 of it, so it costs me £50 less and I get a replacement car and have my car fixed at a Mazda dealer with Mazda parts. Plus I saved the extra £400 for Mazda insurance. It seems mazda insurance is not needed to get its claimed benefits.

Incidentally I was pleased to learn from Esure that as the claim was for malicious damage to the vehicle it would not affect my No Claims Bonus providing I reported the damage to police.
