Mx5 kit car

Anyone constructed anything like this ?

It popped up on YouTube the other day, and it peaked my interest :sunglasses::sunglasses::sunglasses:

Also Try https://www.greatbritishsportscars.com/ as well, similar concept and a very well regarded company.

Both companies have YouTube channels which give you a good idea of their operations and cars. A tour of both facilities and I’m sure you’d develop a preference.

Ultimately it’s a lot about how you build it. But the GBS’s I’ve seen at kit car shows seem very nicely finished and more faithful to the original. But they probably cost more than the MK’s so there’s no right or wrong.

PS: I have a Marlin kit car, hence the interest !

So a quick summary of our story.

  1. Donor car Eunos '89 - was mine, Son inherited it, Son wrapped it around the M3 :frowning:
  2. Around 18 months to strip down to chassis and clean up etc. Hardest part was finding someone to take the scrapped body as we had to keep the VIN for the IVA.
  3. About 12 months to rebuild, my biggest worry was electrics we’d stripped all unnecessary cabling out. But Mazda created the loom so no 2 connectors were the same . The only 1 item that caught us out was the rev counter which was wired via the radio loom for some reason! Once connected up the engine started first time after being dormant for 18 months! (We kept it cranked periodically).
  4. IVA - £500+ failed on a couple of bits
  5. IVA Rested - £90 passed.
  6. Now on it’s 3rd MOT. So 6 years old and running well.

All done in evenings and weekends.

I had no real knowledge of mechanics other than helping my Dad work his cars when I was younger and doing minor bits to my own cars. My Son has a Mech Eng, degree so had some background knowledge.
