MX5/Miata rental cars in the USA?

Hi All,

Does anyone know if there are any rental car companies in the USA that have Miatas in stock? I’m going to be in Florida for a few days later this year and will need a car, so I was hoping to rent an mx-5. But so far my search has been unsuccessful, other than one company in California which is just a little bit too far away. I guess the Americans prefer their Mustangs to Miatas.

If anyone has had any more luck than I have, then please let me know?

Thanks,
Rich

Don’t know if these are any use

When I researched it last year, I did find one place in Miami.

In the end I just rented a convertible at the airport - it had the handling qualities of a sofa.

You really dont want a convertible in Florida, as a 15 year old i had both my arms turn into one huge blister each and had to go to hospital, I had been out on a BMX for two hours without sunscreen…

Rent the sportiest 2 door coupe (I had a Camaro from Lindo`s rent a car at Ft Laudadale) insist they remove any rental car stickers and then drive it flat out in every gear right up to their speed limit everywhere with your air-con on max - petrol is criminally cheap, i

Make sure you pay the CDW and if you do have a scrape or a prang, do not under any circumstances tell the rental company the name of your insurance company in UK. Trust me.

Ha ha Pat  we were there last year (Orlando/Naples/Miami) and can’t say we found any roads which needed better handling than a sofa! Huge straight freeways everywhere. We saw just 2 Miatas on the freeways in 2 weeks. Quite a few Brits were in hired convertible Mustangs which looked fun and we’d get one if there were just the 2 of us. There were 4 of us though so we had a Dodge Grand Caravan, V6 petrol auto, went and handled far better than we expected actually, and we were glad of it on one run in particular when we had one of their horrendous rain storms and we passed a small car which had been shunted into the concrete shoulder by one of their massive artic’s. Great place, would love to go back, hope you enjoy the trip!

It’s not so good in Australia either, a lot of MX5’s over here have a permanent hardtop fitted, just too hot for a convertible

I’m sure I remember reading somewhere that the U.K. is the world’s biggest market for convertibles, percentage-wise. We have the right climate for them i.e.not too hot, and we like getting caugth out in the rain now and then !

Sounds about right, I enjoyed my Roadster far more in UK than in Ozz
