MX5 Mk 2.5 alloy advice please

Hi all

I’m looking for some orignal mazda alloys for my little mk2.5 to
replace the daft rims I’ve got on (yes are horrible).  Before you ask I’ve no idead where they came from!

The ones I’m looking for fits the tyre size 195/50/15 (checked on kwik fit from the number plate) as I believe these would have been the standard alloys.  The problem is that they seem to be like rocky horse poo on ebay!

Anyone know of a decent place to get any or could someone advise if there are other mx5 orignal alloys that would fit well (eg 14" from a mk2)

Cheers

Jacka

They are a standard fit set of steel rims, with a rather ugly set of non-standard plastic trims. Any of the Mazda wheels fitted standard will fit 14" -16"

I was under the impression that alloys were standard on them.

I don’t want anything flash just a set of standards that aren’t going to cost me an arm and a leg for tyres.

Don’t know about the 2.5 but alloys weren’t standard on the Mk2, they were a dealer fit extra.  Anyway, had a look for you :

Most standard Mk2/2.5s (incl mine) seemed to come with the 14" TSW Stealth wheels with Mazda centre caps :

MkI daisies can usually be had cheaper :

14" wheels don’t fill the arches that well so you might want to look out for some 15" :

There’s a very limited choice on branded V rated tyres that the Mk2 onwards manual states for the 14" wheels now.

This 15" package looks quite good and they also have a cheaper 14" option :

You’ll probably be able to auction the original steel wheels (minus the hideous trims) on ebay to get some cash back also - they seem quite rare now, especially if they still have the original centre caps.

You mentioned 14" wheels not filling the arches as well as 15" wheels - but surely the larger wheel hub size has lower profile tyres so the actual outer diameter of the tyre is the same? Otherwise it’s going to play havoc with the speedo etc.

Not sure.  I  personally prefer the look of 15" wheels on the MX5, but can’t justify replacing my 14s yet as the tyres are all good.

Yes, you normally have a lower profile tyre on larger rims. The article in this months STHT covers it quite nicely.

I’d look at going for 15" rims if I were to change mine, mainly due to the lack of tyre options for the 14" rims.

Cheers for the information it’s much appreciated

I’d prefer to go for the standard 15" ones rather than the 14s although I may have to go down the 14 route if none become available.  The 15s from mx5parts are nice but i can’t justify spending that amount of money on them as I was hoping to get a set for between £100-£200.

I’ll place another add in the wanted section and see if someone has any.

Hi I have recently replaced the original 15" five spoke alloys (same as the ebay wheels without tyres in the above link)on my car with some dezent ones. They are in good condition with centre caps and 195/50 bridgestone tyres with a resonable amount of tread left. My only issue with the tyres is that they are a very harsh and noisy ride which i found irritating. I was going to put on ebay but if you are interested in them for £80 all in let me know and I will photograph them for you. I am based in Blackpool

Hi Steve

If you could send me a photo that would be great as I’m definitely interested. Are they from a Mk2?
