Mx5 Mk1 Diagnostic Connection on '97

  1. My model of MX-5 is: Mk1 '97
  2. I’m based near: Bishop’s Stortford
  3. I’m looking for technical help or recommendations on: Diagnostic Connection reader.

Seems like there is a lot of confusing / conflicting information online about this. It appears that my Mk1 '97 was a model that did not have the OBD2 connection but just the diagnostic port under the bonnet. I have read about the wire and LED method but was wondering if there any way of reading using a scanner similar to what is used for OBD2?

I have a Mazda Diagnostic port to OBD2 port converter wire that doesn’t seem to do anything with my current OB2 scanner. Doesn’t power up.

This little gadget is available , goes into the under bonnet port. I got this last year when it was advertised in the STHT magazine, about 50 pounds but has got some nice test features aswell as reading codes.
