Hi, i am the son of the account holder and we have a MK1 berkeley which due to protective parents i’m not going to be allowed to drive it after 1 year of driving (im 17). Probably because of the lack of any safety features like, TCS, ABS, however i am allowed to drive a MX5 with some safety features like ABS and TCS, perhaps airbags as well . i know that most MK2s have these features but i’m around 6ft 3 and struggle to fit in them!!!
im not sure if most do but i remember seeing one that had an ABS badge on the back, so basically if there is ones that have these, which are the specs and how can you tell?
I can not talk about the MK1 but the Mk2 1998 to 2001 came in three models.
The 1.6i and 1.8i they did not have ABS but had air bags, wind up windows, no central locking or electric aerial.
The 1.8is that is not the Sport that was a special edition based on the 1.8is. The 1.8is has ABS and air bags none of the Mk2 cars had traction control.
The 1.8is had electric windows and aerial.
I believe certain Mk1’s had air bags and some had ABS but not that many. Cannot advise on specific models or years
ahh thanks, i didnt realise how the different specs worked, but i think there was some “s” models in the MK1s, looking at the insurance groups on parker.co.uk i think ive worked out which ones have some safety features based on their groups.
i made the assumption that they had airbags and ABS based on the fact that it is mentioned in the users manual for the mx5 ive got now.
Hmmm i know some had it, its a shame the “S” variant only came in 1.8 as it is quite high up in insurance groups, which is great for a young driver like me.
My 1995 MK1 iS, has power steering, electric windows, ABS, Air bag, electric aerial, alloys. But not central locking. It cost considerably more than the lower model.
