Hi
I need some advice on big brakes please.
- MK2.5 1.8 Sport big front brake calipers are marked FSX 16S. Are there any differences between these and the very similar MK3 front brake calipers marked FSX 16K?
Hoping that the calipers and carriers are interchangeable.
- Please can someone confirm that the rear big brake piston diameter on the big brakes is 35mm and a standard brake piston is 32mm? I have two calipers that look exactly the same, as are the carriers but this pistons are different sizes.
Thanks
Rob
The fronts of the MK3 and the Big Brake Mk2.5 car use the same 54mm piston but the calipers have different parts numbers.
Have a look at http://www.brakeparts.co.uk.
They do not do rear calipers so I will have to check another source for the rears.
If you go on to MX5 parts the Mk3 rear caliper piston is 38mm dia, the Mk2.5 big brake rear caliper piston is 35mm dia. Another site advises the standard rear caliper piston diameter for the Mk2 is 32mm.
Thanks for your help Drum!
I am pretty sure that the 32mm piston is standard size for rears on MK2 and MK2.5 as well as possibly MK1 1.8 and 35mm is the only large brake size.
Can’t find any information on the carriers ie if the big brake and standard carriers are interchangeable on the rear.
I think the MK3 has 290mm front discs as opposed to 270mm on the SVT. Not sure whether this automatically means that calipers/carriers are not interchangeable.
Visibly they look very similar, both FSX but 16S on SVT and 16K on MK3.
I do not think the front calipers are interchangeable on the Mk3 and Mk2.5 big brake cars.
The front Mk1 calipers on the 1.6 are different from the standard size Mk1 1.8, Mk2 and Mk2.5 that all use the same front caliper.
The rear calipers according to MX5parts are the same from the early Mk1 up to the end of the MK2.5 on non big brake cars.
