In the spirit of giving back, here’s how I cured the oh, so popular “Console Cup Holder Lid Problem” that apparently, many suffer from.
It will take you about 30 minutes and cost pennies, if your “Problem” is the same as mine.
What You Will Need:
1 x No.6 x 1/2" Wood Screw (A similar sized Self-Tapper would be better but I didn’t have one in stock :-) )
1 x Plain Washer 16mm Dia. with a 6.5mm hole
1 x 3mm Drill Bit
1 x Cross Head Screwdriver
Â
Method:
Remove the Centre Console (2 x screws under the flap by the Boot & Fuel Cap levers, 1 x Screw UNDER the Electric Window Switch (Gently prise the switch out) & 2 x Screws either side of the console at the front (Under clip-on cap-covers)
Have a look under the console - your actuation springs could have popped off and be lying under there
Under the console, you will see that both the Cup Holders are screwed in place. Un-screw them and check for the little plastic lugs that should be present to prevent the spring from jumping off.
On both my Cup Holders, they had broken off “Spring retainer-lugs”
Hook the spring back in place, over the plastic spigot and then drill the 3mm dia. hole in the spigot, a little deeper.
Put the washer on the top of the spigot and screw the No.6 screw in to the spigot hole to hold the washer in place.
This will prevent future spring jumps
Hey Presto! You’re done . . . . . apart from the re-assemblyÂ
hope this helps someone
Thanks
Fraz
