MX5 Mk3.75 SatNav removal

I am trying to replace the factory fitted TomTom SatNav/Radio in my 2013 Sports Graphite.

Want to replace it with an aftermarket unit with Apple Car Play etc

Does anyone have the instructions to remove the unit? I can only find stuff for early Mk3’s?

Thanks

Rob

Unfortunatly with the later mk3 the centre console has to come out. Then its basically the same method as the early 3 to remove head unit.

Centre console is a doddle still.

Radio removal NC 3.5

  1. Remove (or loosen) centre console:

Remove pop out elbow rest at the rear, locate and remove two screws (cup holder cover closed to see both)

Remove screw under removable cup holder and mat in middle

Remove Gear Knob (rotates off) COVER THE EXPOSED THREAD WITH SOMETHING SOFT IE A DECENT CLOTH, JUMPER OR BUBBLE WRAP!

pop front of centre console up (not secured with screws)

  1. Lift free centre console from rear to expose two hidden screws under centre console at front which secure the two side panels left and right of the radio unit. Slide out the panels by easing towards the rear of the car

  2. remove the now exposed screws located to the side of the radio unit

  3. IMPORTANT!!! there is a hidden security screw up behind the radio on one side (pretty sure it is the drivers side) that needs to be removed before the unit can slide out (10mm) there is no need to put this back

  4. Pull unit forward and unclip the connectors from the rear

Some units require additional connections to the connect modules see here: http://mx5oc.co.uk/forum/yaf_postst99900_Aftermarket-Stereo-s.aspx

Apologises if I have forgotten something

What are your plans with the Sony unit you are taking out?

Derek

We are retaining the original unit so that the car can be returned to its original spec.

Hi

I have a genuine double din original unit with facia, gps and wiring harness for sale. Unit all complete. There are a load on eBay for £499…wow.

Selling mine complete working unit for £200 plus shipping.

Hi, I am trying to replace the sat nav radio on my 2013 Sport Graphite. What harness did you use to connect your new head unit? The standard harness for the MX5 is far too bid. I have attached a pic if you dont mind helping? Many thanks
