MX5 MK3 GG Photo heavy

Hi guys i’ve been a member for a couple of months and thought I would start to make a thread of my car. Alright let’s begin.

I got my car Feb 7th 2009 as my first car. An 2008 MX-5 1.8 in Galaxy grey.

It stayed standard for a couple of months before I decided for a little change, my first mod was a couple of Powerflow exhaust tips to beef the back up a little.

Because of insurance fuel etc etc the car stayed that way for a couple of months when I started to attend shows.

Late summer I ordered a K&N induction kit to give me a little more air and improve efficiency.

I then went to a local Car audio shop and they fitted an 8" JL sub in my passenger footwell and an MTX road thunder amp under the seat.

This winter after most the snow I got my wheels powder coated a High gloss black at wheel em in and ordered some MR black side repeaters off ebay.

Next came the drop. 60mm Eibach lowering springs all round, Not a week after I had them on a (woman) driver no affence, drove me off the road and into a pot hole. My left hand front shock poped and on the way to get it checked the other one went to.

As you can see below the front is sitting really high.

So I thought why not upgrade while they are off, and a brand new set of Koni adjustable front shocks arrived a couple of days later.

The car settled in and drives fantastic. below is the ride height at the moment.

and from the front

Some where between that process I painted my engine, fuse, and battery covers a bright corvette red. Quickly deciding it wasn’t the best colour for the car I opted for a bright silver instead

At the start of this month I ordered a Goodwin Race exhaust from American and it took all of 18 days to arrive (10 of which where due to English customs) I fitted it on monday of last week and so far I am truely amazed. Start up nice and sporty, revving up (LOUD) I am now unsure whether it is too loud but we will see. Living out in the country lanes went for a drive and managed to get it nice and warm, heel toing into corners will give a pop but only with heavy downshifts, and finally idle nice and burbly which reminds me of alot of the old fashion roadsters you often see.

Below is a photo I took to compare the size of my new weight loss exaust next to the old dual.

The same week I recieved a set of eyelids for my car, sourced some paint from a local bodyshop supplier and here is the result.

Yesterday I attended the Yorkshire road safety day and i-car launch with Fast-n-Modded and because the sun was out and the car was cleaned took a couple of snaps.

Next on the list is painting the calipers red, protection and asthetics, Drill one of the fog light blanking plates and put in an induction hose upto the K&N, try find a duck tail spoiler if there are any out there, and by the end of this summer replace the everso uncomfortable seats and maybe a harness for the driver side fr future track days.

Thanks for reading.

Looking great, Ash Thumbs up

Have you got the Powerflow tips for sale ???

I would sell them but they’re welded on and I do not have the tools to get them off. Sorry

Hey, do you by any chance have any pictures of the amp and sub install?

I sure do,

Cheers mate, would you mind answering a few more questions?

How much leg room does the passenger end up with- I like the idea but won’t be able to fit it if the mrs. doesn’t fit in.

How much did it all cost?

Did you get it fitted, or fit it yourself- if so, how easy is it?

Cheers mate, lovely mx5 you’ve got! When I was looking I was either having galaxy grey or brilliant black, my fav colours of mx5. Thinking of painting my wheels too after seeing yours.

No problem,

The passenger still has leg room but does have to bend there legs a little, I just say put your feet either side.

Im thinking of adding metal plates either side because the carpet it getting very worn.

My passengers quite like the space and apparently it’s like a foot massage haha.

I got the box made by a car audio company and it cost £150 for the box £150 for the slimline sub and £150 for the MTX amp. (A smaller box is possibly but not sure about the sound quality)

I fitted it myself and it wasn’t to bad to fit although I would give yourself enough time if you havn’t had the car apart before, as you have to remove the seat and certain panels to get the wires through etc.

The company that made my box said they could have fitted it for £120 for 3 hours work, it took me a full day.

A quick resurection for this thread. :)  Did you get your calipers painted and any other mods done?

I have a 2.0 57 Mk3 in Galaxy Grey and keep doing little changes to here.  Great fun.Big Smile

Hi I did paint the calipers but in a silver, I didn’t want to make a big deal out of them and with the black wheels it would have looked a little odd to go for another colour. My last mod has been quite a radical one as you can see below  Haha very pleased with it though.

I didn’t know there was a BMW bodykit available. Wink

Which eyelids are these ?
