- My model of MX-5 is: __MK3
- I’m based near: __Birmingham
- I’m looking for technical help or recommendations on: __Leather Seats
I am looking to change the seats in my MK3 from cloth to heated leather seats but could the forum members tell me if the wiring on my MK3 has the electrical connections already available in the car or does it involve running electrical connections. Also what about the existing switch does a replacement need purchasing Many thanks Paul
Hi I replaced my cloth seats for the leather ones. All the cables are in there .
The cables under the seat just need plugging in to the relevant terminals.
On the dashboard all you have to do is replace the bottom part of the consul with the two switch panel and plug in. The cables are already there.
It’s the classic case of plug and play!
Hi Chris thanks for the reply much appreciated the part you removed from the centre console did it have the cigar lighter in it (see pics) and the replacement part look like the picture attached
as the parts available are currently on E-BAY
Chris forgot to ask did your replacement have a cigar lighter plug in it as I use mine as you can see with a USB adaptor Thax
Make sure you buy a set of switches (the panel below the heater controls) that are from an NC1 model. These have the rocker type switch on/off fitted. The variable switch type panel from an NC2 isn’t going to work with NC1 heated seats as the wiring differs for the variable control part of the switches.
If you have the heated switch panel either for NC1 or NC2 then both come with the 12v socket that’ll take an USB type adapter, it’s never been a cigarette/cigar lighter socket😉
Both switch types below, NC1 top, NC2 (variable) below.
