MX5 MK3 plastic model kit - winning blue paint match

Just wondered if any of the group also build model kits.

I have a MK3 kit to build and would like to do it in winning blue.

Could anyone suggest the closest match to winning blue in a model paint ?

I considered using a regular car spray can but typically the paint is too thick and hides much of the detail.

I use car paint over the top of a plastic primer/undercoat (all rattle cans)
If you buy the Winning blue colour from Mx5parts beware the spray nozzles aren’t the best on those cans, well the weren’t on the True red I bought. I changed them to a better spraying nozzle (had spares I kept from other cans) as the nozzles began to splatter on the 2 cans I bought.

I’ve still got this below to make up, had it a few years. Used to make models when I was a little younger and take some to shows. They’ve all gone now but still have an urge (one day) to start another.

Can you post up a photo of the full sized car please?
Not everyone knows what winning blue looks like

Second thoughts, never mind. I had a look on Google, plenty of images on there.

I’ll have a look what I’ve got in the loft and see if anithing comes close.

I don’t know if this is still available in the Humbrol range

Any good?

Sorry I can’t help with sourcing the paint you need but can you tell me where you got your Mk3 model from.
TIA

Same as Mick, I’ve used car spray paint cans for models.

That Mk3 kit you can get from Kent’s;

As Wardy5 has said - it came from Kent Models

Metallic finish is notoriously challenging in scale.
It’s very easy to create a metal flake finish akin to a hot rod because the metallic pigments can be quite large.
I don’t have the answer.
I tried creating a green metallic finish back in 2020 by adding a drop of silver to a solid green.
It wasn’t entirely successful.

A bit too sparkly in bright sunshine.

I got mine from Japan, just like the real thing😁
At the time that Particular MK3 kit wasn’t available in the UK, all said out of stock.
Amazon UK had them to order with about a 4 week delivery time @£35 approx.

And I’ve still not built it. It’s all this retired living, had more time when I was working.

Cheers - will have to try and find a model shop nearby that actually stocks paint now.

We had a very good modelers shop ( models, train sets, scalextric etc ) but they closed during the covid shutdown and never re-opened.

Hobbycraft have a reasonable selection if you have a branch nearby.

Our local Hobbycraft never seems to carry much for modellers.
They carry all the other hobby type stuff.

Looking at a few on line photos - the Tamiya TS19 looks pretty close.
Some forums are saying that if you put TS-19 over a silver base it lightens up a touch.

Where do you get these kits from ?

On the model theme, I was shopping at B&M yesterday and I always take a look in the toy section.
They had new one for my collection…
