Mx5 Mk4 Soft Top Damage

Hi All,

I’m coming up to 12,000 miles in my Mk4 Mx5 and I’ve started to notice some wear on the soft top, at the very front where it meets the windscreen. I found this very concerning due to the obvious leak risk.

I’ve tracked the cause to be the roof rubbing on the back on the head supports when the roof is opened and closed. I was wondering if anyone has seen this issue, or if anyone with a Mk4 could see what the clearance is like when they open and close the roof.

I will upload photos shortly.

Thanks

Tom

Hi Tom

Mazda are aware of this problem, I understand theres service bulletin on it, take it to your dealer and get them to make the adjustments to the headrests, depending on the damage to the roof I might be asking for a resolution with that too.

Cheers

Hi Tom.  A lot of people have reported problems, take a look at the thread - Hoop rubbing on the Mk4 ND - and you’ll see.

Thank you both for the quick responses. I had a quick search but I’ll have a more in depth look. Better get on the phone to the dealer again then.

There is a complete replacement hood available that combines all the current fixes.

It has thicker glass and has all the fixes known about sorted. It is also heavier than the original. They should also replace the trim on the hoops as this should show wear marks.

Let the dealer know you know that some hoods have been replaced under warranty for this very issue.

You may want to report your problem in that thread so we keep it all in the one place please…
