I thought I’d share the Coffee table I made out of my old Mk1 engine, It came out really well. It has height adjustable legs with rubber feet, the glass is made to furniture standard and the curves of the corners are the same radius as the pistons. I’ve fitted led lights in the bottom which provide some interesting effects.

Looks really nice, did you put a new(er) engine in the MX-5 it came from?
If the lighting is low powered you could consider putting a rechargeable / solar charging block somewhere subtle to remove the need for a trailing cable?
That is superb. Not seen the pistons and rods used in that way before but very impressed.
I would imagine a number of others would like that item.

Thanks for the replies. I am going to look into a battery pack instead of the trailing cable, it may require less powerful leds. [Admin edit] I have the chance to build another from a Honda B18 Integra Type R engine which I would like to take on. It cost more to put together than I initially thought. I had an MX5 that was past its best so I stripped the whole car for parts and it was really quite cool to take the engine to bits, have the relevant parts professional shot blasted and build the table.

I imagine the Honda will be just a tad lighter…and a bit more exquisite.
I have recently started to restore this Integra type R to keep my MX5 company! I’m not sure I could ever part with my little Mazda…
