MX5 NA (Mark1) Rocketeer with V6 Jaguar Engine for sale, £19.950. Worcestershire.
1995 Mark 1 UK car. One previous owner.
I have always loved the MX5, particularly the Mark 1 version. After a long time looking for a sound, low mileage car, In 2017 I located it in Hertfordshire, being sold by the son of the first and only owner, with a genuine 43,000 miles on the clock.
I planned to enhance it drivability, improving its handling and performance, but keeping the essence of the NA.
I chose the Rocketeer conversion company as the company had a proven background in the motorsport engineering and were MX5 enthusiasts Their turnkey conversion offers enhanced drivability that built on the original design but built on its reputation for handling, deftness and flexibility.
Since the conversion I have driven it for 5,000 miles. It is in very good condition and offers an amazing driving and owning experience The professional conversions and modifications make it a very sound and useable car that looks, sounds and drives brilliantly.
The full turnkey Rocketeer conversion started in 2017 with the sills professionally rebuilt (they were sound but tatty), OEM power steering conversion and Limited Slip Differential both installed. The wheel arches were slightly flared using a special tool that reshaped the wheel arch metal (no filler).
The high quality conversion was done by both Rocketeer (Bruce Southey) and M Tech. The engine used was a new (not reconditioned) crated V6 supplied by Rocketeer. The full conversion kit included subframe, alternator, ECU, clutch, Aluminium radiator etc. The full Rocketeer bespoke kit was installed from Throttle bodies and Carbon Fibre Induction plenum to upgraded Clutch etc.
The suspension was upgraded with adjustable Meister Rs which together with the additional frame rail reinforcers, Big Dog Roll cage, and poly bushes gives it brilliant handling and makes the body rigid but delivering a very comfortable drive. Also added are Rota B wheels and Toyo tyres, giving a grip that complements the tight and flat handling.
Lighting was upgraded with ILS motorsport low profile twin Halogens, replacement LED rear light clusters, LED smoked glass side lights and clear side repeaters. Interior lighting was upgraded with LEDs.
The interior was retrimmed, with new sound proofing, custom carpets, gearbox tunnel cover and door cards and mats. Additional water temperature and oil pressure gauges were added, along with chrome interior door handles, stainless steel handbrake and gear lever and leather handbrake gaiter. Cream dials were installed together with chrome dial rings. Stainless steel trims were added to the Eyeball vents. A new quality hood with heated rear window was installed and heated seats were installed. Alloy brake, clutch and accelerator pedals together with a Motolita leather steering wheel were added.
The final touch was the installation of the black “Rocketeer” sill trim plates, a picture of the interior of the car is on the Rocketeer web site.
A Sony Bluetooth CD radio was added together with Pioneer door speakers. The wiring loom is installed for the Kenwood seat subwoofer (the heated seats and rear heated screen looms are place but not connected). A modern low profile arial replaced the original.
Servicing and subsequent additional upgrade work (Coil packs, Alternator pulley and ECU) have been carried out by both Rocketeer and Basset Down.
As a result of the above work, this is an amazing car to drive. In traffic, or just ambling around, it is docile and comfortable but when given throttle is both quick and easy to drive with the 270 +bhp very usable and flexible. The roadholding is great, very flat cornering and no discernible scuttle shake.
I have used the car in the summer, and it has been mainly dry stored in the winter.
The car is very solid and in very good condition (that’s why I bought it) and reflects the very low mileage. There are a few stone chips with a couple of small areas where the paint has lifted (bubbled) and a minor scrape on the front under nose there is no structural nor significant rust or rot anywhere. The paintwork generally is excellent. The leather seats have a couple of small marks on it, aside from that the interior is unmarked.
The car was shown by Rocketeer at the MX5 show at Ragley Hall in Warwickshire (photos attached) and is well known to the Rocketeer company. (it features in their website photos).
This is a very low mileage example of an iconic Mazda MX5 NA and has been professionally restored and modified to a high standard and maintained and will give a future owner many years of pleasure. The only reason that I am selling it (very reluctantly) is that I have another classic car restoration on the go
As I am sure you are aware The cost of sourcing such an original car and building to this specification and standard will be substantially more than the advertised price.
