MX5 NB 2.5 - DRL's

I tend to drive my NBFL with the headlights on these days so that other motorists can see me. Has anyone fitted DRL’s to this model and if so what did you buy. Ideally it would be perfect if they would fit into the round plastic grill space in the front bumper designed for optional fog lights. If not possible then I guess they could be mounted on the front bumper grill.

The ones for my car by MX5 parts are too expensive for me.

My car is a 1.8 non sport model and I would need to get my local garage to fit and wire them in. .

I’m surprised no-one responded to this question? I’d like to do the same on my NBFL but use the fog lights with suitable bulbs.

I have used switchback indicator bulbs. Cost about £15 I think.

Looks like it has been done before: Retro fitting DRLs to MX-5 NB (2.5) / Miata, replacing factory Fog Lamps (UK Road Legal) - YouTube

Nice, did you look at putting them where the fogs should go?

the switch backs are a kit similar to this ( but there is some soldering involved to change connectors )
the second pair were fitted behind grill for ease :man_shrugging:
(power for these from under bonnet , on a manual switch )

I did do but have no foglights fitted. I have wired via a changeover relay so they go off with sidelights on

Yes I don’t want mine to dim just go off. So the normal dimming DRL relays are a bit superfluous

I tried a couple of the dimming relays but both proved to be unreliable Ching Chong rubbish.

A few of us with Mark 3s have fitted bright white LEDs in place of the stock fog lamp bulbs and use them as DRLs.
Maybe you could get some s/h foglamps for your 2.5 and do the same.
