Hi Guy’s,
i spent some time during the worst of the bad weather in a Machine Mart Portable Garage welding the rear sill’s and front chassis legs on my 1999 Mk2 1-8.
When i went to my paint supplier they matched the colour as Metallic Midnight Blue is this correct? as nobody seems to have mentioned this colour.
Regards Ian.
Hi Gra,
they did check the door piller then came back with the sample strips and it came up as Metallic Midnight Blue.
It is a lot darker than the pictures you have posted.
Regards Ian.
Paint code on my indoor section -ex.color -12K int.color NBO (?) So 12K it is
The boot lid is in need of respray as lacquer was peeling - fortunately I have a good contact to respray this part about £120.
Looking at the detail of the colour on the car there are tons of fine swirls - not my doing.
I also love this dark colour on the MX5’s

The car looks great and an early one at that on an S plate, Bc and judging by the clear headlight it has spent a lot of time in a garage, unless it’s had new lights fitted. I always think that this is a good indicator of a cars overall condition. You could try Meguiars Scratch X on the paint swirls. Hard work but the results can be pleasing.
Cheers Gra
Nearly right - I bought this in 2014 and have been lucky in keeping it in a garage / underground car park since then at home - and in underground car park when used for work. Prior to this it has been 1 owner - but was parked outside though unsure for how long.
Mileage is 86k on clock - Ive done about 8,000
The headlight lens were hazing slightly yellow when I bought it - but I looked at ways to clean - and tried the
’ fine sandpaper method '. Scary at first as the lens became cloudy as I sanded ( by hand ) - but eventually it clears through further fine sanding and paitience. I was impressed how they cleaned up brighter compared to before. I will look up your suggestion on the MeGuiars.
(I used Postimage on web - to load the photo - but Im sure there plenty of other options.)
