MX5 NC 2.0 6 Speed to 5 Speed Conversion

Hello all,

I was wondering if anybody knew exactly what would have to change to accomplish this? Im aware this topic has been debated ad nauseam but im only interested in a parts list rather than pros and cons.

I know the prop will need to be changed, and i assume the clutch. Will the flywheel need to be changed? And also will the input spline on the 5 speed be appropriately sized to fit into the engine if it came from factory with the 6 speed?

Any info will help

Many Thanks
Fin

You could check the parts lists to see what changes between 5 and 6 speed

Thanks for your reply. I had a read of the documents youve sent, as far as i can see a lot of the 5 and 6 speed components share the same part numbers. To add to this im bolting an NC2, 5 speed gearbox to an NC1 engine, im not certain but i believe that site only has info from 08 model NCs which would exclude NC2s so I cannot verifiy.

I have foolishly bolted them together assuming they were interchangeable. But when in gear and the vehicle being pushed the engine is not turning over(prop connected and rotating) so something is not interfacing somewhere. Wonder if any one had any ideas what itll be.

The rest of the range is there too

Thank you for the material. There might be a difference between the part numbers but it certainly isn’t obvious. Having looked at various aftermarket part sites there is a different spline count between the 6 speed clutch and 5 speed clutch. This almost certainly is the issues so will buy the 5 speed clutch pack and hopefully that will solve the issue
