- My model of MX-5 is: nc1
- I’m based near: Bristol
- I’m looking for technical help or recommendations on: how to repair fan speed setting.
So I recently replaced my 2006’s blower fan with a newer
2011 used one and all was well and good until one day I noticed that the fan was stuck at a mid-high setting. Trying to change the speed did nothing and for a while I couldn’t switch the ac on or off either (same button).
Does anyone have advice on what this might be?
To clarify: the AC toggle is now functional but the fan speed is still not
I don’t know whether the switch connector would have been disconnected whilst changing the blower motor but make sure it’s fully home and making a proper connection if so.
I’ve just cleaned the switch connectors (inc the ones to the radio) and cleaned the battery connector as it was gunked up. Unfortunately it hasn’t changed things.
I haven’t cleaned the fan connector actually now that I think about it.
Just cleaned connector closest to the fan and that didn’t do it either.

How are you with a multi-meter, would you be able to follow the circuit through from start to finish, to try and see what results you get. The results might help you to determine where things are going wrong?
I don’t have one (should tell you all you need to know
) Good point though! I might get one if I get desperate if this doesn’t work.
I’m currently betting on it being a bad fan resistor (MOSFET), though it sounds like it will be a pain in the ■■■ to replace
(2-4h job on my back in the passenger footwell)
Not very relevant maybe, but I’ve just changed the blower motor resistor in my daughters Ibiza.
It previously worked on “4” , nothing on “1” “2” or “3”……
New blower motor resistor restored 1,2,3 and 4.
This might help, even though obviously a different vehicle??
Good luck

It ended up being the blower resistor/MOSFET. It was a really unpleasant multi-hour blind struggle on the floor of the passenger side to replace it.
Ended up using just the wrench bits with sticky tape on the nut end (to affix it to the nut) and a strong tape wrapped around the nut so I can pull it to break the nut and then unscrew by hand
A thicker wrench bit will also be easier to hold with you fingers.
