MX5 NC rattle behind glove box

Sometimes I hear a rattle noise behind the glove box, it depends on the rev, like a vibration.
I removed the glove box and punching a bit on the black box it sounds exactly like the rattle/vibration.
What part is this? is it easy to open/removal?

It’s most likely to be connected to the aircon/heater unit. I see a couple of fastening up there try nipping the up.

There are several flaps in there (driven by a clever cam on a motor) controlling how the air moves around. That box is the air-con/heater assembly with fan in the drum on the right.

Try altering settings while it is all working and see if the rattle changes. Then it is a flap, or two, or more! Access is a pain.

Otherwise its more likely to be a bit of leaf trapped in an awkward place. That might just rot away eventually… or at least one can hope.

Removing this unit is a dashboard-out job!

What do you mean to nip them up?

I see a disconnected white connector on the right side of the photo, like the one from the radio. Anyone knows what is this for?

Tighten the nuts up

If you haven’t got aircon it’ll probably be for that, they installed the looms with the options there anyway.

nuts seems tight, i got the aircon.
Maybe it’s something that got inside :face_with_raised_eyebrow:

I’ve found a video just now, the blower fan is easy to remove and clean (the part on the right)

i’ll try that, even if i suspect the noise is coming from the box on the left
