MX5 nc water ingress passenger seat

  1. My model of MX-5 is: 2011 NC
  2. I’m based near: _Bristol
  3. I’m looking for technical help or recommendations on: Water ingress behind passenger seat when parked with nearside lower than offside in very heavy rain.

You don’t mention if it’s a soft top or a PRHT

Possibly the left side hood drain blocked

OR

if also parked facing down hill - the water is coming off the front of the drain channel

I had the same with mine when I bought it and as said above it was a blocked hood drain.

Thanks for replies. Its a soft top. Have cleaned drains with trombone brush and water is coming out both sided underneath. Wonder if it is a design fault and one drain cannot cope with water if it is parked with nearside lower than offside as it does not happen on offside?

It is possible that the drain tubes have been dislodged during the cleaning process.
It might be worth taking a look in the cavity behind the seat belt reels to ensure the tubes are still sealed.

Another quick thought - is the carpet wet all the way to the front on the passenger side ?
Perhaps the passenger side scuttle grommet is leaking and the water is getting in at the front.

Thanks for reply. No this area is dry. Have now dried behind passenger seat and will keep car parked on my level drive. If after rain it remains dry (have cleaned drain) I can only assume that it was the immense volume of recent rain that we have had. Will be seeking garage advice if problem persists.
However I seem to recall some years ago other members with same problem.
Regards.

I also use a Richbrook top cover, fit is really good using magnets, straps and a thick fabric loop in the boot shut line.
Keeps the cabin dry, saves the top from birds leaving a fly past calling card and cats and their fur on top.
