Good morning, having purchased my first MX5 a few weeks ago and joining the club yesterday, I’m looking for advice. Firstly insurance, mine is due for renewal at the end of April, is there a specialist company that owners are using? Second, is there a good independent specialist in the Taunton Somerset area? I bought the car privately at only 14000 miles on a 2018 plate, FSH at the main dealer near Bristol. There is a main dealer in Taunton but I’m not keen on using them based on my experience when I test drove a couple of cars there. I’d appreciate any advice. Thanks in advance.
I’d only go with a specialist insurer if you’ve either heavily modified the car or there are other reasons that mainstream insurers would be prohibitably expensive. Admiral seem to be pretty good value. I’ve found Howden’s Thatcham branch to be particularly good for modified cars.
Thanks for your response, I’m not intending to carry out any major modifications, I like it the way it is. I’ve had some reasonable quotes, some asking if I’m a club member others don’t.
There may be some benefit to a club discount, but it’s the final number that matters obviously.
Sorry, I meant to say welcome. Glad you’re enjoying your car.
Have you tried the MX-5 Owners Club insurance?

Also, I would necessarily allow your experience of a Sales department and a main dealer cloud your judgement of their after sales department (and vice versa).
So true.
One of our local places ( not Mazda ) has sales team that come across as a sales prevention club.
Everything is too much trouble for them - seem to think you should feel lucky to buy a car off them.
The service dept however are excellent - can’t seem to do enough for you.
High Scot164. I have a mark4 1.5 RF and insure with LV every year but discuss cost 28 days ish before renewal term ends and always get a reduction in what they are requesting on their annual renewal letter (this year I paid £287.14). And as for my local Mazda dealer Rockingham cars they are excellent all round.
Thanks, I’ll try them. I agree with you about the difference between main dealer service and sales departments, however my decision is based on my observation of how a customers car was treated by one of the service technicians when he thought no one was watching. I decided that I would not want my car serviced by the dealership.
Hi,
Please feel free to give us a try for insurance if you wish.

Dan.
