- My model of MX-5 is: MX5 RF ND.
- I’m based near: Essex.
- I’m looking for technical help or recommendations on: Resonance at around 2000 RPM. Sounds like rear off side behind passenger seat of boot area. Most noticeable with roof up but is present with roof down.
Can you describe what kind of sound it makes?
David
I can only describe it as a lose panel resonating. I’ve removed the carpets from the boot area and the plastic side panel in the roof retraction area looking for something loose or something. It’s hard to pinpoint it could be a heat shield under the car but it’s very specific at 1800 to 2200 rpm. After that it’s silent. Just hoping someone would say it’s not unusual or better still know what to do. Thanks

I am not sure how the exhaust is organised on a RHD Miata; but that might be a cause. Have you tried getting underneath and shaking things to see if anything is loose there?
David
I need to find away to get the car in the air to have a good look.
Try taking off the rear Perspex (?) wind deflector. That seems to cause most buzzing in the cabin on mine! It took ages to discover the issue as the buzz seems to come from almost anywhere else!
I dont know why it is so, but it appears that our sense of direction is poor when sitting in the car and listening to unwanted noises. I have read many times of drivers finally tracking down a noise to a different area of the car than they initially expected. It can be rather frustrating.
David
Thanks all. I have removed the wind deflector but that’s not the source. I have a main dealer service booked next month. I’ll ask them to look for sources whilst the car is on the ramp. I’ll let you know if I have a fix.
