is there a buying guide for the 2.0 nd2?
I cant see a guide specific to the 2.0 ND2, but this overall guide on the ND might help…

Are the engines quite noisy? Direct injection type of noise?
Quite noisy initially when you start up, exhaust noise mainly.
The idle settles after about 30 secs when the catalyst warm up cycle finishes.
If you’re looking at 184ps models, they should be less than 3 years, so you’ll still have some warranty. Just check it has had its annual services at Mazda.
The service history is digital these days on the Mazda app, owner should be able to show you it.
That’s true, as long as the owner has a smart phone, and there are still some of us who don’t, A relatively small number I know but it still a possible to come across someone without
.
You should be able to go to any Mazda dealer with the registration number and get the service history, and any other work done.
Just come to see one and there’s a fair bit of paint missing on the door edge and it’s already starting to rust! ! Big problem? Expensive?
Imo it shows a lack of care by the owner, and the dealer if it’s being sold by a trader.
Be careful
T005 tyres on rear and s001 on front. All good knick tho.
What’d that door edge cost to repair? The red is an expensive paint isn’t it
I’ve got s001 Bridgestone on mine (they’re OE) and they’re not very good. No idea about t005.
If it’s a newish low mileage car all 4 should match imo. Points to a disinterested owner.
I thought the s001 had been discontinued, so maybe that explains it.
What age is it and miles?
With regard to the door edge, if it’s just the edge, a DIY repair may suffice e.g. kurust, primer and soul red touch up.
If you want paint the whole door, remember soul red is 3 layer, colour, flip layer and lacquer, so a bit more expensive and you may need to blend into rear and front wing. I reckon £600, but maybe get a quote.
Yes few notes,
Roof rubbing on to hoop garnishes
Paint missing on edge of door
Alignment way out
Wheels kerbed
Slight vibration when driving but guess that’s the nature of the car and bilsteins?
Ac seems very weak
2nd gear notchy when cold but no worse than any other car ive had
25k witb fmsh and warranty is still valid
Are the mazda approved ones absolutely spot on?
I thought the roof rubbing on the hoop garnishes had been corrected on the ND2?
I know someone on here did a really good job touching up a paint chip on a Soul Red MX-5… With time and care, that could be done well.
Alignment out? Is there uneven tyre wear on front tyres?
Badly kerbed wheels could knock out the alignment.
AC might just need regassing, but could be more serious.
2nd gear notchy? Did that improve when car was properly warmed up? This again was more of an issue on the ND1 2.0…
25k is higher mileage than most I have seen, and if Mazda Approved, I’d expect better than this…!
Rob
No, the roof rubbing was present on my ND2, they fixed it before the I picked up the car.
Sounds like it’s had a hard life, is it a 3 year PCP return car?
All those things can be fixed and they should sort it in the price of Mazda approved.
But does show bad preparation, should not have been allowed on sale like that.
Depends what the price is I guess and if they will fix the faults.
That’s the impression I got too. Been bought new by someone who knows it’s getting part exd in a couple of years so didn’t care. Ah well the search goes on. Maybe after summer tho at these prices
It’s often better to walk away from a car like that, as even with the initial problems fixed, there are others hiding.
You’ll know when you find a good one.
There’s just too many “little” things wrong with that car. Leave it, they could just be a warning that “bigger” things may yet lay undiscovered.
PS: I would think that the vibration is due to the damaged wheels and the alignment rather than the Bilsteins.
Yeah im going to leave it. Pay more for a Mazda approved.
Saw a white one on the way home at Tamworth mazda, so much nicer. And I actually like the white to be fair. Looks a lot better to live with and seems a thicker stronger paint?
Think you’ve made the right choice in leaving it… I knew within about a minute of seeing mine that I would buy it (subject to it driving ok obviously!) With a newish cars the “faults” just stand out like a sore thumb! One in Tamworth sounds like a better prospect… If it takes a little to longer to find the right one, it will be worth it in the long run…!
