mx5 paint correction

Hi there, great to be part of the forum, just bought my first mx5, its an se model which i feel is going to become a bit of an obsession as its great to drive and takes me back a few years, i got the car last week and ive got to say it did look in a bit of a state and a little tatty round the edges, any advice on a good bodyshop in the sheffield area would be very appreciated as the british weather has got hold in the usual places arches etc, and one wing looks slightly shot too, but mechanicaly it seems tight as a drum and the old girls got loads of history backing up its 114k, new hood, 3 new tyres and a new exhaust, anyway i,m always up for a challenge and i,d love to get it back to mint condition.

heres a few snaps of before and after a paint correction detail i carried out the other day, i,m really pleased with the results and for 17 year old paint its come up really nice with the machine polisher.

lots of swirl marks and years of grime had left the paintwork really tired and dull looking.

heres a 50/50 shot that i got by masking off a section then polishing.

after polishing

heres the finished product washed, clayed, polished, refined, sealed and waxed phew!!!

hope you enjoyed the post, i,m sure there will be many more, i,m thinking wheels next, any advice will be gladly recieved.

another one for the black brigade.

Try Dave at Deepcar Autobodies. He is an MX-5 enthusiast and generally well regarded in our community. Tell him Niggle sent you …

Fantastic job on the polishing by the way. If you don’t mind me asking, which pads and compounds did you use?

lovely!

gotta love a propper polished mx5…with a good glossy wet look they are achingly beautifull…good to see a tired car looking its best again

 hi niggle

i ended up using the menzerna range of polishes starting light and working up to a more aggressive compound, about medium cut got the best correction in the end, it is pretty soft paint and good to correct, as for the pads i like sonus, again starting with a less agrressive pad and light polish and finding a good balance, ended up using the swirl remover for most when i,d got the right match, orange pad, DA all the way.

jt.

by the way many thanks for the advice its only up the road from me so i,ll give him a go.
