I have the single exit pipe and a de-cat pipe. Great exhaust, a proper bargain that is a lovely fit (sits perfectly in the bumper).
Hope you like getting noticed! Burbles up to about 3000rpm, then RASPS VERY LOUD!!! [6]
Yes, looking forward to the extra noise [;)]
Still got the cat on mine, but may look at getting rid of that a bit later in the year [:D]
Well you’ve heard mine without a cat
Mine was only £99 from one of the rallies though.
Oh, I didnt realise they dropped the price on them by that much. I was going to wait till the rally, but didnt think they would be much cheaper!
For that price I could have got the decat pipe too [:@]
You going to the rally this year Halli?
They weren’t that cheap at Beaver.
I’m going to the Spring rally on the Sunday.
Not camping this year?
My nice shiny exhaust turned up today, so I had a go at putting it on…
Or should I say I had a go at getting the old one off !!
The two bolts on the cat will just not budge, I cant get the car off the ground high enough to get my torque wrench uner it as this has the most leverage [:@]
Tons of WD40, still cant get them off, and dont want to snap them as it looks like they are “screwed” into the cat rather than pushed through from the cat side like a normal bolt. So, I dont know if the bolts that came with the new exhaust will fit onto the cat anyway.
I guess I will be hoping for an exhaust place to be open tomorrow…
When I had my exhaust and de-cat pipe fitted the cat bolts snapped clean off, after the fitters trying using plenty of heat and a long bar. Didn’t matter to me as I had de-cat pipe to go on anyway.
I think they will just snap mate [:(]
Took it to a garage on Friday morning, took them the best part of an hour to get the old one off!
I saw 3 blokes havign a go at it from the viewing area, with blow torches, cutting tools and anything else they could get there hands on [:O]
Made me feel less of a failure in not getting it off myself by lying under the car with a torque wrench [:D]
Anyway, the exhaust is on, and sounds superb. Why I never put one of these on 3 years ago when I got the car I will never know [H]
Not stopped driving it all weekend, love it, recommend one of these to anyone [:)]
They are great aint they !! [:D]
I have the twin exit, but pretty much the same as yours.
Makes every journey just that bit more special … and louder. [6]
Sorry to jump in on the thread chaps, could you post a link to the exhaust website? If they are that cheap at the rally I will look into getting one £99 is a bargain - and means my smile will be even brighter upon starting up and waking the neighbours at 7am!
Kind Regards
Mat
No problem Mat [:D]
The link is below, that price is until 17th, then they go up to the normal price.
Hello noo,Am I correct in assuming that only pre-1992 dont need a cat? Mine is one of the last mk 1s a 1997 1.8, fitted with a rather ratty “long cat” which I would happily bypass if I could do so legally. I also have a £90 cat back bargain to be fitted but not the same as you guys. I bought mine 2nd hand from am member in Banchory in January. He said it was too noisy but then he lived in a quiet suburb.I live in a field so wont bother anyone! I cant wait to give it a blast but my “green machine” is in my local garage having power steering fitted as well . I am also immobilised. I have just had a hip replacement op. so now is a good time for me to use early retirement to get to grips with this here computerolgy lark. For what its worth, I can join in on this forum with my pathetic twin digit stabbings to satisfy my MX5 cravings[:D]
In theory, your car will need a cat on to pass the emissions test at MOT time. As yours is one of the last Mk1s, it will have probably have the 475mm cat on:-

If you want to run a de-cat, then obviously, you will have to pop the cat back on each year for the MOT test. Unless you are on good terms with your tester and then you might not have to bother with this inconvenience [:)]
Unless i’m mistaken I believe it’s any car registered on 1st August 1992 and after must have a CAT fitted for the MOT.
I remember that because my car was registered on the 9th August 1992 therefore just missing out on being able to take it off !! [:^)]
This has been a hot topic before…
Ady, you are correct. Before '92 is OK for a de-cat. The test should not be so stringent on emissions on the early cars.
My MOT is due 29th of May. I intend to get it tested on/around 29th April, I have:
De-cat
Import-size rear plate
Sticky front plate
Gonna try with all 3 and see what happens. Keep ya posted…
Been looking in to getting the MX5parts single exit exhaust, and was just wondering what it’s like at motorway speeds?
Noise/burble/raspiness is what I’m after when hooning around [:D] but if I’m doing a longer trip I’d rather not be given a headache! The car is fairly noisy on the motorway as standard!
Also if anyone has any video clips of the car driving with the MX5Parts exhaust, that’d be great.
Cheers
I bought mine for £179, about 2-3 months before the spring rally last year.
When I got there they were £109
Mines a '03 1.8
It probably is a bit loud for long motorway journeys, hearing it at one tone continually.
I tend to avoid motorways unless I need to get there really quick though.
Not got any vids yet, but hoping to get some as soon as I remember to take the video camera out with me!!
