I’m after a stainless steel exhaust for my 1.8 mk2 and narrowed it down to the above two and just after some opinions on quality and sound!
I want it to be loud but not embarrassingly so as i use it for daily use! I have a auto exe cold air induction kit fitted if that effects anything…

Cobalt gets my vote. Thought it was too loud at first on my mk1 with a cat replacement pipe. Loved it after a few weeks of it mellowing down a little as they do. Really well made bit of kit for sure from an engineers point of view. The way they have ground off all the welding ripples on the box is just Fantastic. Just a shame it`s tucked out of sight though

The single exit Cobolt one is on offer for less than £100 for the mk2 at the minute!
Got a Cobalt on my mk3, very pleased with it. I’ve been told they sound good on a mk2 as well.

Yup! I ordered the single outlet Cobalt last night from Moss £112 including delivery is a pretty good deal. They sell the same pne on fleabay for £139 plus postage. Cant wait for it to arrive and bolt on

Definitely cobalt for me good quality and price. Very pleased with mine
I fitted a Cobalt system a couple of years ago and to say I was happy with it would be an understatement.
The only thing I didn’t like was the huge 4" tail pipe, so cut it off and fitted a 2.5" tail pipe with a rolled end.
If you don’t like the Cobalt badge, if it’s like the one on mine it was only stuck on. A little heat with a hot air gun will soften the glue and it can be pealed off.

Fitted a Cobalt today, very pleased
^^^ I’ve got one of those to fit, should be a breeze to fit as I know the bolts are pretty much rust free, the back box was off last year.
It’s me that’s not too good but I’m getting there, not quite fit enough yet to be grovelling under cars though.

Mine arrived and plan to fit it over weekend! It came with that crush type gasket so Im wondering if any exhaust sealer like Firegum should be used in addition? Any thoughts?
I’m just about to order mine but do I need to order the gasket as well? If yes does it have to be the one from moss or is it a standard thing?
Again same with the rubber exhaust hangers? Just need one?

Mine came with a 2 bolt flange gasket which was blowing a bit when I fitted it up so I also (re) fitted the doughnut gasket as well which was on the intermediate pipe when I removed the OE silencer.

I want to make sure it’s louder than my existing exhaust, I think it’s the standard mk2 one but maybe not! It’s a 2000 Rs import, hopefully pics below!

had my cobalt back box delivered this week For my mk2.5. Can’t seem to find a stainless centre pipe though, Moss only seem to do one for the mk1. Question is do I just fit my shiny cobalt to a rusty centre section or can anyone advise on a where to find a stainless one?

I have had both the Mx5parts exhaust on my MK2.5 and now have the Cobalt.
Both sound very similar.
My MX5parts exhaust lasted 5.5years and then the hangar snapped off.
Both sound much nicer than a cheap mild steel exhaust.
