- My model of MX-5 is: NA
- I’m based near: East Sussex
- I’m looking for technical help or recommendations on: MX-5 Parts soft tops.
Hi guys, I’m looking at replacing my soft top in preperation for the summer months. I currently use a hard top, so I took the soft top frame out this weekend in preperation for replacing the old vinyl top.
I’m looking specifically at the “Vinyl hood with glass window”, either in blue or black from MX-5 Parts. (Linked).
Does anyone have experience with these soft tops? I’d like to know what the quality is like, how long they tend to last, etc. It’s a rather large purchase, so I’d rather not have it falling apart after a year or two. Also, the website claims that you do not need to modify a mk1 (NA) frame to fit this soft top, is anyone able to confirm or deny this claim?
It would be fantastic if anyone has pictures they could share of the blue, as I can’t find any sources relating to what shade the blue is. Would be nice if it matched Jess’s (my MX-5’s) mariner blue paint, but most of the blue soft tops I’ve seen online are a much darker blue.
On another note, the frames that hold the soft top / rain rail to the chassis of the car are extremely corroded. I do think they are saveable, but will take a bit of work with a wire wheel. Are they tough enough to withstand a good amount of pressure with a wire wheel? Or will I wear holes through them trying to use one?
