Hi all, I posted a couple of weeks ago regarding looking for and potentially buying an MX5 as a second car that my wife and I can use once the weather improves - and we’re allowed out again! I must thank those who replied to my enquiries which were very helpful. To that end and after chasing a few around the country (very difficult under the current regulations) I have purchased a 2012 2 litre Sport Tech in BRIGHT RED with retractable hardtop and what looks like all the goodies. It is a very low mileage car for its year (34,000) one owner and I take delivery of it on Friday the one thing being a newie on MX5’s is what mark is it (Mk 3 or 3.5 or what). I have a 1960 Frogeye Sprite which I also use but look forward to possibly doing (when we are allowed) longer distances in the MX5. The next thing might be to join the club and meet people. We are in Rosyth in Fife. A few years ago while on a Healey run we met a group of MX5 owners in the service station in Abingdon and we were very impressed with the friendliness of the members which really gelled with us. You wont generally be disappointed with any mx5. I have had the na, nb and now the nc like many on the forum. Unless you intend to mod then it is just a case of routine maintenance.
Not seen a frogeyed sprite in years. Very quirky.
First off, welcome!
And to answer your question, based on the year I believe yours is a Mk3.5.
A ‘Mk3’ can also be referred to as an ‘NC’ and in your case an NC-FL, being the first face lift of the NC which happened in 2009.
There was a second face lift (Mk3.75/NC-FL2) in 2013 before the Mk4 (ND) was released on 2015.
And just to cover all bases:
- Mk1 = NA (1989 - 1998)
- Mk2 = NB (1998 - 2000)
- Mk2.5 = NB-FL (2001 - 2005)
Excellent choice Dave. So you have a mk3.5 PRHT.
I have the 3.0 PRHT which is a 2008 model, and am loving it. Your car should have better steering than mine, that was one of the invisible changes with the face lift. There were a few tweaks, all well received I believe.
