MX5 RF engine control software related sales halt (Japan only)

Hi,

Don’t know if you guys have heard the RF has been taken off sale. More investigations pending. Seems engine software was not done correctly?

I quote below;

“Mazda suspended shipments of its Roadster RF sports car and the Mazda2 hatchback from Thursday last week after finding workers had modified engine control software test results, it said in a statement.”

I only got this car a month and a half ago and the customer service by Mazda UK has been a let-down. Hope this issue is confined to Japan.

There is something afoot too with Toyota, Daihatsu and other manufacturers

Further information in the following Mazda Newsroom article:

It’s in Japanese, so if you’re fluent or your browser may translate. Failing that, see Google Translate version:

In brief, the MX-5 issue relates to testing of engine power delivery. One of the control environments for intake air wasn’t upto test conditions.

But instead of changing the control environment, parameters were changed to turn off valve timing advance function, so the test result wasn’t valid compared with previous tests carried out. It’s said to only affect JDM stock and they didn’t state which engine is affected. It seems the 2.0 is only available on the RF for the Japanese market, but seems they’ve paused production while an investigation is carried out.

Thanks for that additional information.

Does this affect the performance of the engine? Or just related to the MPG?
