I’m taking my NC in for a brake inspection, possibly a frozen caliper (hopefully under warranty from the Main Dealer where I got the car). It’s only done 1000 miles since I got it. I was told that it had stood for a while when in the hands of the previous owner. Full details in this thread.
If the worse come to the worse and the Main Dealer says the work is not going to be covered (I know pads and disks are normally excluded), I need a plan B. Can anyone recommend any MX5 specialists in South Devon? I need to know the going rate for caliper/disk/pad replacement so if the main dealer wont do it under warranty and says “It’ll cost X”, I can then accept it or if it’s a silly price, drive away and go to a local specialist.
Thanks.
Simon
Hello Simon. I too have just acquired a Mk3, but I do most of my own maintenance of this type. However, the previous owner lived in Bradninch near Exeter and had a lot of work done by a local garage in the village called Westend Garage. I have several receipts from them in the documents that came with the car, one of which was to change the oil and filter, replace the antifreeze and front brake pads, and fee up the calipers and sliders, so similar to what you want doing in the brake department. The whole lot came to £96.00 inluding vat, dated November 2014. I have been in touch with the previous owner and he swears by them, so maybe worth a try if you are close. Hope this helps.
Hi Nick, I wonder if by some chance your Mark 3 is grey? I ask because I fairly recently bought a set of Mark 3 foglights from a chap in Bradninch and had to clean grey overspray off them before I could fit them to my red MX5. It’s just possible they may have originally been fitted to your car. Just wondered.
Yes, you are correct, it is Galaxy Grey and the previous owner fitted fog lights, but removed them again before trading the MX5 in for a Merc in Exeter.
Well I never! See you at Cara’s?

Is that the Bay’s Brewery visit? Afraid I passed on that one. Would have been a bit “Coals to Newcastle” because I actually only live just about a mile from Bay’s factory, and the A380 is not much of a fun road to my mind, especially not when you use it regularly. Perhaps we ought to have a Moors run or maybe a visit to Bickleigh Bridge via Crediton. Much more interesting scenery and roads.
Aha! Now I understand. I was not aware that there was a whole separate website for the SW section of the MX5OC. As a newbie, I have to say that it took a lot of searching of this site to work it out too. Perhaps a bit more obvious link under the Area Meets section might be a good idea.
Cara’s is just a Sunday morning get together over bacon butties etc and a chance to kick tyres and look under bonnets. Normally quite a few of us are there, a good chance to meet the crowd. It is next to Raceworld karting on the Sidmouth Road from Exeter a little way past Crealy.
