Recently I’ve purchased the MX5 Tech Wink Mod and I’ve installed it but it’s not working as I thought it would.
Firstly, the sleepy eye isn’t working at all on the app (maybe it’s an Apple thing idk)
Secondly, the centre lights button isn’t working either as it should with the pre programmed actions once you click it a certain amount of times. The 20 button click doesn’t reset it either.
Thirdly, the lights don’t stay down when I turn the car on. They pop up as if I have my mains on.
I’ve tried everything, flipping the wires, unplugging everything, re plugging everything. Nothing works. I’ve tried emailing the company but they haven’t replied. If someone can suggest anything else I’d kindly appreciate it.

If your headlights are on (dipped) then the pop-ups will be up and the Wink module has no effect.
I believe factory reset is 10 flashes
“To reset the unit to factory defaults, perform 10 flashes one after the other. The lights will pop up to show successful reset.
Resetting will return the 4 default winks to factory defaults (if changed via the mobile app) and set the default sleepy eye level. Reset will also unregister any registered mobile device and allow a new mobile device to register with the wink mod.”
Check your Bluetooth connection, if it drops then the app control will not work. The centre console light switch often doesn’t work first time, ie if you want the popups up with no lights on, throwing the switch won’t work first time, and turning off often makes the popups pop up and then straight down. Reswitching will then work.
I have the head light flash mod done (diode fitted) so a quick flash will flip one headlight up, but note, the lights will not be on, only gives a true (lights on) flash if both pop-up.
Other than sometimes unpredictable, it does generally work as advertised.

I have one on my 1997 1.8i. Jeff is correct, it is 10 repeat presses of the lights up / down button to reset. I have had a couple of glitches but not as serious as you describe.
Have you accidently connected your iphone to the device directly by pairing? as this caused mine to crash until i reset it a few times. Other than that there is a link inside the link from Jeff with troubleshooting. If all those fail, the device needs sending back and am sure they would offer replacement.
I can operate mine from the house window and watch passers by smile as an empty car winks at them. Loadsa fun!

Hi all, it’s gotten worse lol. So I don’t think it’s the wink mod itself but something with the car. When it’s turned off, the centre button for the lights works as it should. They come up and they go back down when it’s pressed/depressed. It’s as if the car thinks that I have my lights on constantly so the lights come straight up as soon as the key is turned.
Then just today the lights didn’t even want to come up, half way through the drive my right light came up but the left one stayed down and wouldn’t come up.
I’ve did a bit of research and possibly narrowed it down to the lights motor relay but I want to eliminate everything else possible that’s either free to repair or cheap before going out and buying things.
If anyone has any other suggestions what it could be then please share. Because sharing is caring
