MX5OC CS - General Meeting notes

A big thank you to everyone who made the journey to our first meeting of 2024 yesterday.
I really enjoyed meeting you all - and apologies if I didn’t get a chance to chat 1-2-1. There will be lots more opportunities at future events, I’m sure.

A few key notes from the discussions to share for those not present;

  1. Monthly meetings have been agreed, alternating between East and West;
    - West = evening of 3rd Thursday of the months; April, June, Aug, Oct
    - East = morning of 3rd Sunday of the months; May, July, Sept, Nov.
    Action; Members to propose venues - must have a good car park and food/drink for those who want to partake.

  2. Monthly runs requested. These are to be separate from meetings, and again alternating East and West, on 1st Sunday of the month.
    - 1st run is 07 April to Brakes & Bacon @ The Rynd Cafe, nr Leachars in Fife. See e-mails.
    Note: All members responsible for proposing and organising runs - not just the AC.

Raymond noted a few runs in the diary from Grampian colleagues that we can join;
- Inveraray - 19 May
- Alford Car Show - 21 July
- Lake District - Mon 9th Sept.

Member from Dumfries & Galloway suggested SW Coastal 300 - which looks good (and could maybe tie in with visit to Andrew Scott at AutoLink in Castle Douglas?)

  1. Events - a number of car shows, hill climbs etc. were discussed. It was agreed that members wishing to attend these could set up drives with times/meet points to destination. These will be communicated to wider membership by AC via e-mail.
    Some that were mentioned;
    • Doune Hill Climb - 14 April
    • Borders Vintage Automobile Club @ Thirlstane Castle, Lauder - 02 June
    • MX5OC Summer Event @ Compton Verney - 09 June
    • Ingliston Car Show - 14 July (not proposed as a CS run)
    • Alford Car Show - 21 July
    • Biggar Car Show - 11 Aug
    • Moffat Car Show - 31 Aug (also Bo’ness Hill Climb)

Note, re MX5OC Summer event at Compton Verney, only 1/2 members noted that they were intending to travel to Warwickshire on 09 June. As above, times/route to be shared via AC.

Annual Rounders event was noted with our Northumberland area colleagues.
Also, visit to Raptor Cars in East Lothian - following 2023 Spring Event.

Christmas get together was also discussed.

AC to look at creating a calendar of dates for meetings, runs and events.

  1. Communications - formal dates will be sent by AC by e-mail. We discussed how to share list of attendees, etc. so folk could see who is attending - AC to look into this (Google Docs)
    It was agreed, for the time being, that anyone who intends to attend an event/run, should respond to AC email noting this and saying whether they consent/not to email being shared with member organising event.

Informal discussion to be on MX5OC website forum.
No CS WhatsApp group will be established.

  1. Other ideas - generally accepted this was a socially-minded group, but some discussion on what else members want out of group;
    • Advice on recommended mechanics in CS area.
    • Tech day - friendly mechanic in MX5OC to carry out Club service day?

So, that’s an overview of discussions - was good to informally catch up around the cars afterwards too.

Regards
Steve
