"MX5Rowers" concept 2

Well we are eventually up and rowing as grumpy badger put it.
If you own or have access to, most gyms have them, a concept 2 rowing machine, look in your app under teams and select
MX5Rowers.

You may as well get fit, I’ve entered the team in September’s team challenge, we could do with your help. MX5Rowers is a free and supportive group maintaining good cardio health and encouraging year round top down driving.

We do need woolly hats.

Well we both did 5k yesterday, and with a 10 k lined up for this morning I’m begining to feel really motivated towards training up towards a marathon before Christmas.
Not bad for 62, I’m determined to enjoy a long and happy retirement. Before we do that I’m going to wash my lovely MX5

Can you explain (just briefly), please, how the app works with the rower? I use a Concept2 at my gym and have a WaterRower at home. Both have distance and time monitors, but I don’t think either is smart or can connect directly to an app. The rowers at the Nuffield club that I also use are TechnoGym and I think they can connect directly with a smartphone. I often do a couple of 3k+ rows a week.

Hi Mikey, nice red MX5,

Anyway connecting your rows to your log book.

Go on to Google play search for and download the C2 erg data app.
Click log in and set up an account, usually linked to your email. It doesn’t matter from this point on what machine you are rowing on it’s the account that is logging your distance.
For example if you’re in the gym enable Bluetooth on the erg app, every concept 2 has a serial number link to the one you’re sat on, on the back of the pm5 You’ll find the number.
For example select just row ,say 5000 metres, connect, it’s the third button down really obvious anyway. You’ll see the 5k counting down on the pm5 and on your smartphone, so you know it’s working right.
Link your Google fit account and it will log your row to there, this is an important step because you’ll need to log your water rower via Bluetooth to your Google fit account which will give access to your log book.
It all sounds complicated but once you start working with the erg data app it will all slot into place :+1::sunglasses:

It’s been a busy week for my mx5, full service, new Michelin sports all round, three hours of cleaning and polishing this morning, looks so much like a 60’s sports car, really reminded me of a lotus …
Or
Totally topless “I am not a number” “what do you want” “information” “you won’t get it”

“who is number 2”

OK - I’ll look into this. I’m on an iPhone so don’t use Google Fit. I didn’t think the WaterRower had Bluetooth, but the gym’s Concept2s do use PM5s.

Your Recaro is looking lovely there

It looks standard, is it? Mine is not - there are standard parts scattered around my garage

Hi Mikey sorry, I didn’t know you were on I phone, in which case I have no idea at all…

The pm5 will link to the erg data app, is there an iphone equivalent?

Yes my MX 5 has every option in the book, I believe it was a demonstrator.
In addition it has the bbr sports exhaust and k&n air filter.
Upgraded brakes, pushes it to 190 bhp and a lovely raspy sound with turbine like acceleration, I love it

10 k in fifty six minutes twenty two seconds, nothing world breaking but it’s my first 10k in over a year, and for a 62 year old ex smoker with four stents that’s bloody marvelous…

I feel great woooo hooooo.

Mikey if you do two or three rows a week, we need you in the September team challenge, we need you on top form, because every row counts, please feel free to declare any charitable Suggestions Because the MX5 club needs to support local charities. How it’s worked in the past is every competitor picks a charity local to them, they are then responsible for putting up sponsor forms , collecting funds and declaring honestly the handover of funds, informing local press and company news, whatever you decide to do. Not compulsory. but opportunities like this are good for us all.

ErgData is available for iOS. I’ve created an account and set it up. I can’t see where teams are hiding, though. Whereabouts is it on the Android version? Or are you running the team via Google Fit?

I’m not rowing long distances - it’s a warmup for the rest of my workout with some intervals. I’ll usually do about 3.3k in 15 minutes. I had my 2k well under 8 minutes when I was focusing on it.

Hi Mikey, go to your meter screen, life time distance on the left season distance on the right…
Two menus above them, on the left a drag down menu reveals teams second from bottom, input MX5Rowers, then click join team.

OK, done. That’s a painful interface from within the app.

Brilliant Mikey thank you, by joining the team, all rows that you do during the team challenges In September and April will show up as duplicates on the MX5Rowers team total, so please log into erg for every row.
You can check up how the team is performing during the team challenges every year by clicking on “team” during the two competitions, you’ll see all our names and how many metres we’ve covered individually as well as a team.
I’ve signed us up for the September challenge, some teams are huge like the us military but there are hundreds of small teams who compete from all over the world, and as a competitor you’ll be entitled to a pin and t-shirt :slightly_smiling_face:
I wonder if the MX5 owners of Japan are running a team whom we could link with.
Anyway the plan for the first competition is to get the system in place,

  1. our team is formed and registered
  2. All our team is logged in and aware of how to ensure their metres are counted
  3. During the competition we are all fit enough to add some metres every day, if you’ve never rowed before, I can recommend the concept 2 because it’s a great machine and links up to personal as well as team events, it’s a great way to maintain your cardiac health, my cardiologist recommended the C2 to me, because it puts no strain on your joints, and is simply a cardio device.
  4. and finally not to come last…

As the MX 5 is the most popular small sports car in the world, I hope we can get a decent sized team together by 2025.
You are never too old to row, It boosts your physical and mental health.

I’m 62 and rowed 10 k yesterday, and I feel great.
As a wise man once said to me when I started rowing and could only manage 2k…
Most of the population couldn’t row 10k with a gun to their head… At least in the begining :sunglasses::+1:

I can log any time I go to my local Gym Group so will try for a couple of times per week (I do other cardio and don’t always use that particular gym). I’m pretty sure that I won’t be able to log rows from my WaterRower unfortunately but I’ll look into it before September. Otherwise I’d be able to contribute some meters most days.

Excellent, thank you very much Mikey :slightly_smiling_face:
That will be enough to get you a team t-shirt :+1::sunglasses:

Another 10k today, feeling good , my personal plan is to take three days off before the start of the team challenge and then do 10k a day, from begining to end…

It’s a simple enough challenge, form or join a team, each member is to row and log as many metres as possible between the fifteenth of September and the fifteenth of October, if they count the start and finish days that’s thirty one days, 310,000 metres… Gulp…
I have nine clinical work days in that month, I’m going to need to be realistic, take off nine days because work and a 10k row don’t mix well.
Leaves 220,000 metres in 31 days mmmm…
I can do that, or give it a good shot .
Next problem :sunglasses:
