MX5's in CSCC Future Classics Race at Snetterton 12 April

There were 2 MX5’s on track in the CSCC Future Classics race at Snetterton last Saturday. Car 27(1.6 Mk1) driven by Martin Thomas & David Harrison qualified 30th in a field of 37 and managed to finish 16th out od 25 that lased the race. Car 111 (MK1 1.6 BBR Turbo) driven by Paul Black & Clive Bailey qualified a very creditable 5th but unfortunately did not finish the race. Here are some pictures of both cars.

The BBR Turbo blew a head gasket unfortunately.  I would expect it to be very very quick when its reliable.

The blue car also raced in the Modern Classics race on the sunday and was very competitive, finishing 16th out of 28 finishers with a fastest lap of 2 min 21.9.  Its fitted with throttle bodies and engine management and is very light I think.

We also had a Mk3 out with us, driven by Simon Fleet and, again, did very well. It was to “standard”  Max5 or BRSCC spec. I know that the Mk3 has to race in the 1800-2500cc class of Modern Classics but it is still a competitive proposition as whilst cars like my Porsche 924S may have more CCs but are actually about the same power to weight ratio!  Simon finished 18th out of 28 with a fastest lap of 2 min 24.2

By comparison I finished 25th in my Porsche 924S with a fastest lap of 2 min 28.1

Be good to see a few more of you out with us.
