My Alloy wheels

Out of pure interest, would any mx-5 guru be able to tell me more about the alloys that came on it. I have seen countless mx5 pics online, and have yet to see the same set.  I know that its an import, and  just wandering are they an optional extra at the time, also are they rare?

Standard alloy for 1993-95 Eunos Roadster 1.8s (same wheel in UK, with a different badge). I think this design was dropped in 1995 (in Japan) with the so-called phase 2 NA8Cs (ie. those with the thin carpet, long door pulls, green roadster badge etc).

See http://www.miata.net/faq/wheel_weights.html for a listing of the factory wheels.

BTW, are you really sure your car has been lowered by 70%. I think thats physically impossible if you are using the standard means of measuring a drop (wheel arch to wheel centre).

… and when you next have your tyres changed (or wheels balanced), ask them to put the weights on the inside of the wheel Smile

The weights hold moisture and damages alloys - mostly just cosmetic, but still …

maybe not 70%, never measured, but its certainly a lot more than standard, cheers for the link@AT
Thanks for the advise @Marl-T

More likely its a 10-15% drop.

I like this wheel design.

Is it me or does that page say the standard “minilite style” (90-93 Second one down in the table) wheels are only 12lbs??? That seems lighter than most of the aftermarket so called lightweight wheels?

Yes, they are very light.

Absolutely, the original Daisys and those in the pic are REALLY light rims compared to any of the other 3 types I have kicking about.

They will therefore automatically give better handling / braking performance than fancy, heavier ones. Don’t be fooled by the aftermarket claims - unless you pay very serious money indeed for mag-alloys I doubt you’ll find any other rims that will have a better cost / strength / weight (/and in my view looks) ratio.
