Hi all just wanted to help you all with corrosion underneath your cars.My first MX5 didnt have any and was a 22 year old Mk1 in Red and mint passing every MOT from new…Incedently the original stainless ariel on the drivers rear wing is a stainless rod with i think a 6mm spanner to release at the bottom and is actually made to use to rod out the drain holes when reversed for your cloth tops with the bobble on the top.Cool eh!!! Second MX 5 and current is a Mk3 2.0 litre sport in Tru red with Miester R suspension ,Geeood and corner weighted by Paul Roddison himself down in sheffield and the difference in handling is just sublime.Cobra race exhaust and sounds like they all should from factory Imho…
Now then down to the corrosion prevention…I use a wonderful product called ACF-50…http://www.acf-50.co.uk/…To use warm the tin until quite hot to the touch with a hair dryer so that it is released from the tin easily because you want it on thinly. After a through clean of the car the day before underneath with a pressure washer, allow to dry a day or so and time with a good day after which is quite warm to help it achieve the results wanted on a ready and cleaned dry underneath vehicle.I spray everything underneath being careful to keep it off the disks but back plates etc can all be done.I use a brush on the disk hubs with the wheels off in turn to try achieve total coverage.Any rust large scotch brite pad off with a glove on and spray smooth black hammerite and allow to dry before the Acf-50 application again the day after…Once the car has been treated using good quality car ramps etc to be safe the Acf-50 will keep the underneath fab Ill tell you.My current car is into its 13th year and still black powder coated underneath.Acf 50 is a purple liquid, non carsogenic, doesnt contain water so can be used in switches and doesnt combust so great round the engine bay also.If after application you didnt wash the car for twelve months and then decided to, the Acf-50 is still on for a further 12 months brilliant eh…With rain on wet days always in the wheel archers etc I reapply in certain locations like that underneath the vehicle before winter and again after due to the erosion effect.Even done inside my sills and bottom of doors and door pillar areas ok.
Price well I get it off Ebay and its only approx ÂŁ15.00 a spray tin and one tin lasts my car a full year.Ive sprayed the newly fitted Miester Rs last September and they are like new in April.
Just a bit of work yourselves and your results will be brilliant as will your cars. A garage car ramp would be ace if access to one for ACF-50 is a super product.Any drips from application catch with a cloth and apply elsewhere for I dont waste a drop.I applied it to my garden gate hinges and they havent corroded for 5 years.
Hi well a heavily rusted car would be better off treated with Dinitrol RC 900 after its 1st initial clean and after its dryed with most of the rust rubbed off with a glove and a large ruff scotch pad wrapped in the hand.I did my buddies and after the rust was removed as much as poss the Dinitrol RC 900 was applied then left to dry. After that smooth black hammerite was applied and left to dry than once all sorted and timed with good weather the ACF_50 was applied to all the underneath and beyond with a warm tin. The RC 900 makes rust turn black and is a pro application for about £28… dear but very much better that others ive tried.
Regards
The manufacturer of the product advises that it should not be used underneath cars as it is too light weight. They have a product called Corrosion Block that they have develped for cars.
Many users of the Talk Morgan Forum do not follow the product manufacturers advise on this matter as does the original poster here.
Can I suggest that people read the instructions in the link below and follow their advice if they would like to use a similar product.
Thanks for the heads up but for me Acf 50 just easier to apply and done me proud for both cars. they are both fab products and wrk brilliantly imo tis all
ACF 50 is commonly used in the gliding & light aviation world (my other expensive hobby!) as a lubricant/protector and has a good reputation. An alternative is “XCP Rust blocker” (widely found, eg search on Amazon, ebay etc). Probably not a substitute for underbody sealers, but good for getting into hard to reach places.
I have been using ACF 50 for years and love the stuff also use corrosion block on everything when I rebuild I like to see what is going on with the underside so I know when to do any work before it gets out of hand I hate cars that have black stuff sprayed everywhere you never know where the rust is until its too late all just my own opinion of course.
Used to have a Kwak 650 just like it in green and Acf-50 works brilliantly on bikes also.
just ordered some more and corrosion block so as to re apply later on a fine day before the winter and poss before.
That was my first full sized motorcycle after passing my bike test in 1996, I wanted a CBR600 but couldn’t afford one or the insurance so I went the classic route and bought the Z650.
Brilliant bike but I had the bright idea of stripping it down for a quick six month tidy up after a year. I got a bit carried away and it wasn’t finished until 2002!
