As my music, like for over 30 years has come from the source of CD I wasn’t overly disappointed when my brother offered me all of his…! His CD player broke a while back, and now he and his family are now “Streamers”…! Sorted through them last night and implanted them into my own collection… We have similar tastes, but as you’d expect, amongst the duplicates, some new and unvisited material found it’s way in…!
Anyone else here had a welcome gift of unwanted CD’s, vinyl, cassettes etc…?
Yes, from an uncle by marriage who was a life long music lover and collector. His 78’s went to a local radio station but I now have his extensive collection of Jazz and Dance Band music in vinyl together with a wall of music cassette recordings (He died before CD’s arrived). I am now thinking about finding a final home for them. They are beautifully preserved with his own review notes for each record.
I gave away (yes gave away) my entire vinyl collection consisting of approx 400 albums. This was back in the 90s when vinyl was worth nothing. Subsequently I’ve discovered that some of them world now be worth hundreds each.
On the plus side, I gave them to a student who came from a poor background but developed an interest in ‘proper’ music. He subsequently went on to do very well for himself so I don’t really have any regrets.
I keep all my CDs, DVDs and quite a few blu-rays in the loft.
Why? Because I was/am concerned about copyright issues, if I gave them away.
Of course, inheriting them is unlikely to be an issue, as far as copyright is concerned.
My CDs have all been transferred to an “Innuos” device (which plays through the “hi-fi”) and - apart from about 150 blu-rays - all the films have been transferred to my PC, being accessed on any TV using “Plex”. Naturally, everything is backed-up - twice!
